My highland Ponies and other animals!

They're gorgeous! I've always wanted a Highland!

Grulla is a Spanish word, a lot of U.S. horse words come to our dialect from Spanish, our cowboy-ranching traditions all come from the Spanish-Mexicans from the colonial era, like chaps from chaparajos and lariat from la riata, Pinto means "paint" in Spanish, hackmore from ja'quima and many more.

Tartannik, I would love to see your place! Perhaps a bed and breakfast thing!

Just so lovely!!!!!!!!!!!

Those photos are just gorgeous! I think the misty pic of your byre (another name for barn?) is beautiful; the fog just ads atmosphere to an already beautiful setting. Oh, now I want to go to Scotland someday!

Thanks for sharing yoru pics. I'm a pony-owner myself, love those Highland ponies, just beautiful! : )

If anyone is in Scotland you can come visit anytime!!!!
Just to say that my house is along the road a bit, and that isn't my barn/byre I just use it for the ponies, i can just about see it from my house though in winter when there are no leaves on the trees!! I WISH I did live there!!

Your farm is beautiful. I can see why my ancestors settled in the Appalachian Mountains....it probably felt like home. : )

I had never heard of grulla until I got into Paso finos. I have two dun Paso Finos. One is a bay dun and the other a peanut butter dun. The bay dun's sire was a grulla; he even has "zebra" striping on his legs. You ponies colors remind me of colors in my Paso Fino's family tree. I love those primitive colors with a dorsal stripe!

What kind of breed is a Paso Fino, do you have pics, they sound interesting! My ponies also have zebra stripes on their legs, not all highlands have these!

That
is a Paso Fino. I used to raise and ride them and they are beautiful. However nowadays, they went over the top and the breed is sliding downhill if they don't watch it! Abuse is so commonplace and its so sickening. I wished they would take back the old time, gentle method of training.

Alot of Majestuoso's offsprings were dun or grulla colored. Illuminares produced alot of duns due to his grey genes crossed over the bay mares which carry the dun genes. I have not been in the Paso World since I got out of it in the mid 90 to late 90's and things really has changed since then. Too many Colombian crosses all over the place and trocha is getting popular. UGH!
