My horse passed away this morning...

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I lost my best pal and faithful horse shania last summer in a tragic accident. I still haven't gotten over her completely. It was very, very hard on me. In fact, lately I've been thinking a lot about her. I have a new horse now and he's great too, but will never replace my first horse (Not that I ever expected him to)

I'm not sure that it is any easier when they die older, but for me I think it would have it my horse wasn't 13 when she died. She still had so many years left.

Anyway, know that your buddy is now in peace. I love the rainbow bridge poem, though I've never gotten all the way through it without crying.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I understand how you feel, having had a few that have passed on. Horses touch our lives like no other creature can...as Winston Churchill said, "There's something about the outside of a horse that's good for the inside of a man."
It comforted me to know those that passed would be joining others...pain free and able to run & buck & play like they were foals again!
Take care.

You never forget the great ones. Just know Nipper knew he was loved and by his age alone the care you made sure he got was excellent.

As far as not going don't go if you don't feel like it would not help you in your grieving. His spirit has already left that body so there is no need to go there.

The memories to keep are the ones of the two of you out together and learning together. Those times spent telling him your secrets, hopes and dreams. The smell of spring as you rode with him. The sound of him contentedly eating his hay and grain. The soft touch of his muzzle on the palm of your hand.

*sending hugs and a shoulder to lean on*

Just wanted to say thank you again to everyone who posted.

I had my DH cut off some of Nipper's tail hair before he buried him, and I wanted to make something special with it for my parents, my inlaws, and myself to remember him by. Any suggestions of what I could make? I don't have a lot of hair, maybe around 4 handfuls or so.

This might be a dumb idea, but you could braid some of the hair and put some beads on the end to make it look pretty and make it into a key chain. Or you could even braid a few strands into a bracelet.

I am so sorry for you loss.
