My dear, I really do feel your pain. I have lost lot and lots of chickens, ducks and geese to preditors. You really need to look at your coop and make a Coop Knox out of it, if possible.
Also, ever heard anyone say,"Bloom where you are planted?" Well, start cooking those coons. They taste good and I think they owe you a few meals. My trap is set.

I have lost many call ducks and bantam chickens to skunks the last couple years. I didn't think they could go through a chain link fence till I watched one squirm through like a roach. I shoot them on spot. The last one I was only 6 feet from and he never sprayed. When they die their muscles will relax and the smell will come. Bury them and no more smell. I had to leave one out in the yard till I got home from work to bury, but the buzzards had already taken off with him!

We caught a possum last night!! I thought we got rid of all them guess not. We bought a tote to put the cat food in. That help for a couple days and now something has found out how to open it.

I know i take risks with free ranging them. I just don't see the point in having chickens if i can't. So we just keep shooting stuff. When i get back into breeding though they gonna be in fort knox. My breeders at least. I haven't seen the skunk or smelled him. Maybe he left? Can possums open latches? I know coons can.

Possum went to heaven last night. I felt bad for it cause we had a ice storm yesterday. It was in the live trap all day. It was in the garage nice and warm but no water. I know its just possum but still. I was going to give it water but the dish was upside down and i wasn't putting my fingers in there. I was going to use a rabbit waterer but it started raining ice balls by the time i thought of that. Not going out in a ice storm. Can possums open latches?
