Ok so this is my daily log and diary about my failures and successes I hope first a little background then onto my daily
I live in New Hampshire it's very hot and highly humid here(more about that later)
here's my flocks
4 coups
#1.red star roo,2 red star hens,1 australorp hen (3 eggs a day every day and he breeds them very well)we bought them from a local breeder they are about 1 yr old .
Next I ordered a bunch of chicks from murry mcmurry hatchery.i ordered 36 we got 41 chicks yay I they arrived at the end of November.one was dead in the box we lost 2 more during all that time and sold 12 for 15 each.ok so now to how I set up the other coups
#2.1 buff roo 3 buff hens (3 eggs a day and he is also a good breeder)
#3. 1 austro roo and 5 austro hens ( not breeding much and just started to get 2 or 3 eggs each day)
#4. 2 roo ( 1 EE &1 silver lace) 2 silver lace hens ,2 EE hens,1 partrage rock hen,2 black star hens, and 7 bar rock hens(they are good breeders and we get 12+ eggs every day) no broody hens yet !
A friend gave us this very old round incubator made of galvinized steel and no fan but it heated when we pluged it but I said no I'm gonna get a couple of those ones from murry for 12.00 ea. then hubby talked me into trying the big old bator ,I have never incubated eggs before but the eggs where free so I thought ok ill try
1st I gathered eggs 6 of them and followed the detections on the little bators .I heated the bators first and added water as defected and checked temp it was right.i marked the eggs rotated and checked as I was sapposed to candled them they are brown and couldn't see much but ok I added almost 40 eggs to the big brooder and added water (end result disaster shrink wrapped chick it died!)
Try 2 eggs in large bator fallow directions lots of piping no survivors!
So now I went on the web found this sight and lots of help so here we are.ill post where I'm at in next post and update with posts and pics and to all who have offered and continue to offer help and encourage me thanks
