cochin would have been gone by now wouldn't risk it. i had a 2" gash on my leg from a mean rooster before its way to big of a risk. those spurs are very very sharp and have no problem cutting through skin. as for the question they look like a bunch of ee's. just reading that you still have him makes me uncomfortable and sends shivers down my spine

You really should have placed a disclaimer on the title of your post: "Put down your drink when reading this post or you will spray it through your nose."
Or something.
Thanks for joining. I think I'll be stalking your posts.

OH! Your questions... No answer, sorry. But I also ask why you haven't made Dick soup yet?

LOL!!! Yep, I enjoyed your post thoroughly and...
I agree...I would make him gone. I won't keep any mean chicken...hen or roo...My roos must take care of their hens, not attack anyone (but it is ok if thy chase my cat and peck his butt after he finishes stalking tham!!), and not play too rough. Otherwise, they find themselves in the freezer. They won't be riding down the drive in some vehiclebecause I don't want that roo doind the same in someone elses yard.

Lmao! Sorry but i am still laughing. I cant help you on what your chickens are, but you need to get all this on video! I myself had a Roo that was nice to start out and then got very aggressive and would flog my 6 yo son. His name was Dumpling ( yummy chicken & dumplings, hence the name). My poor son could not even go out in the yard with out Dumpling chasing him or attacking him. Hence, Dumpling is no longer with us, I took him back to the Farm Swap and sold him and bought myself a nice hen. I have 2 Roo's now, that are Blue laced Red Wyandotte's, "Meaner & Beaky". Meaner is the head Roo and he is too funny to watch. He is a good Roo and like you said protects the hens and finds food for them. Beaky is very tiny because he had a crossed beak and has not figured out he is a roo yet. I dont have the heart to get rid of him cause he is deformed, so he will live out his life here. Hope someone can help you figure out what your chickens are and I look forward to more of your posts!

I would suggest selling Mr.D and keeping the good-behaviored RIR. You really don't need two roos anyway; two roos for six hens is a bit much.

Here's me hoping right along with you that Dum Dum comes across the hormone river as great a family and flock rooster as our big old red Walter.
big_smile.png
Who incidentally, shares the Dum Dum nickname occasionally. Most recently while trying his heart out to convince even dum-dummier hens that deep under the house is a great place to lay eggs... "What spiderweb crown, lady-who-shakes-the-chicken-feeder?" "Dum Dum want yumyum? Gerrout from under the house!"
Ha ha haaa haaa....that's awesome, "Dum Dum want yum yum"...lolol. Is that Walter in your avatar picture? I love that name and he is a very handsome fella! I love the greenish feathers on the RIR, I just think they look so regal. Silly, I know, because we're talking about a chicken here, but I just love to look at them and marvel over their markings and their behavior. I love these stupid chickens!! It really does seem like there's this whole other world playing itself out in the confines of our backyard...lol.
Egads....eggs under the HOUSE?? Good grief, how do you get them out so you don't have stinking rancid eggs rotting up underneath your house?

Oh wow! What breed do you consider Greta? She's a bit more "rotund" than Fancy & Nancy, and looks waaaaay more docile and laid back than my schiztoid two...lol.

Well, actually I have considered Bald Booty Broody to be possibly molting, but she has looked pretty much the same way since early June, which was when I took pity on her and her sister, Gidget, and brought them home. They were already laying by that time, so I'm assuming that they were both at least right at 5 months in June.

Well, killing Mr. D is not an option for us. He is so little, that I wouldn't even think he'd be feasible for the freezer.

His behavior is continuing along a steady pace of re-modification, so to speak, over the last few weeks as the dichotomy between him and Big Boy continues to play itself out. This morning I noticed that when our dogs came near him, he simply ran away from them.
The last few days, he's also been running away from me when I walk through the "valley of certain death" in the food area near their coop. Usually, he patrolled that area with a militant fervor, unleashing pint-sized hell on anyone who dared to venture into that inner sanctum of Backyard Chicken World.

Anytime he has been agressive to me or my husband, we just pick his little *** up and flop him over on his back and carry him around like a baby. He hates it, but has no choice to endure it. We even play with his comb and waddles while talking to him in this ridiculous high pitched voice to add a little insult to injury....lol. Even worse, if the kids are out there, we call them over to come pet him. Even worse than that, sometimes we also squat down and let the dogs lick him...lmao.

I truly feel a little sorry for him right now (
I can tell he still seems like he is trying to figure out what is going on. We're in the process of modifying another coop we just bought and the last several days, he has been staying over in that corner of the yard for most of the day, just him and the buzzard.
Since the baby chicks have hatched, my husband and I discussed dividing the flock and going ahead and putting Gidget and Bald Booty with Mr. D, since they are all small and leaving the other three regular size hens (Molly, Fancy & Nancy) with Big Boy. He is really too big for Gidget & Bald Booty anyway. Gidget has managed her daily "ravishings" fairly well, but poor Bald Booty looks so pitiful when Big Boy manages to catch her & proceed with the deed.
She looks like a Road Runner when she runs and she's as fast as one too.....lol. But when he gets a hold of her, she just lays there splatted out spread-eagle style, wings, legs and all. I'm fairly certain she's not enjoying it.

That was my first thought as well. My broodies tend to molt during their broodiness this time of year.

Here's one right now. I have a silkie that is crestless because of a molt and she's sitting on a lone egg.

Greta is just an EE. I guess I shouldn't say "just" and EE she is so beautiful. I can't wait to see what color egg she lays Blue or Green. I thought I was getting 3 Welsummers but I ended up with 2 Wellies and Greta the EE. She is the lowest pullet on the totem pole. She is SO skittish, she jumps and runs away from everyone and every thing. My hens are molting right now and Greta was eating yesterday and the wind blew a feather by her she jumped up in the air flapped her wings and squawked so loud. Well then the others thought something neat was happening so they ran over there to see what was up. Well that freaked poor Greta out even more. She ended up hiding in her favorite corner.
