My Ivy.. Latest Relapse...She's Gone

My tough wonder hen is still here. Her color is better today, but she keeps sitting down suddenly like her legs won't hold her anymore. Then she gets up and wanders around, picking at things. She was eating her biscuit then shared the last of a box of Special K with me, munched a bit on my hostas, etc. She's still alert and doesn't actually seem in pain or anything like that. Ginger is also still functioning, as is Olivia, though Livvie keeps going to the nest like she knows there's something inside that should be outside.
I think I just need to quit posting anything about her until she's gone. She keeps making me out to be a liar, LOL.

Keep posting... her making you a liar is a good thing in this case!!

Lucy, my egg w/in an egg laying hen, and I read through almost the whole thread. As she sat on a heating pad... on my lap... we both had an "ah ha moment" This is all worth it, and I'm not crazy for trying to do my best by Lucy.
Thank you so much for sharing this personal experience. You have made a difference... to me and Lucy. Thanks Again

I just checked her again, after a sitz bath and blow dry... then a heating pad, nothing. Yesterday she gave me an egg. First one in 14 days. This AM there was pieces of an egg almost all intact in the run. And this afternoon she had shell hanging out of the bum. That's when I bathed her. I won't give up, because you have shown such determination, I can be asured that Lucy and I are in this together.
She is my biggest EE and only 1 y/o. Should I put her on a no scraps diet???

I'd definitely get her some emergency Tums, crush one up and feed it to her in whatever she will eat. If you have calcium w/ vitamin D tablets of your own, melt one in some oatmeal and feed that to her. It may help and it may not, but I'd try a super calcium punch right now.

Well, Ivy is telling everyone not to try to take her place too soon, that she's not dead yet. She and my banty Cochin, Shadow, believe it or not, got into a knock-down, drag-out fight this evening. And DH had to rescue Shadow, who was just sort of hanging from Ivy's beak.

Ivy cannot stand for long periods, has to sit down for long spells, but she isn't taking any guff off some little one-pound upstart.
