My Ivy.. Latest Relapse...She's Gone

Cyn? How are your girls doing? Just thought I'd check in for an update. Hope Livvie is doing better. How about Ivy? Ginger? Is no news good news? Please let us know how they're doing.

Ginger seems fine. No outward signs of illness. She just doesn't lay eggs at all, but whereas she was lethargic before, she seems okay now. It's been a year since she has laid an egg.

Ivy is very weak. She still had the spunk to thunk Mr. Levi on his head when he dared eat out of the feeder beside her, LOL. She falls over, but she dives for the goodies anyway. It's nearing time to help her along, I fear.

We drained fluid off Livvie and for two days, she seemed much better, wasn't choking and acting like her lungs weren't working well. We needed a larger syringe, though, and now we have it. Plans are to try to get more fluid out of her today so she is more comfortable.

We attempted to drain both Olivia and Ivy with the 12 cc syringe we bought last week. Out of Livvie, we got about 36 cc of blood-tinged fluid. Out of Ivy, we got about 156 cc of yellowish fluid. That's 13 x 12cc, folks! Hopefully, they're more comfortable now.

Holy moly, that is a LOT of fluid- I bet they feel a whole heck of a lot better!

Would have tried to get more from Livvie, but she started choking and gagging and I let her down. That was her second session, though.

You can sometimes insert the needle, remove the syringe, and let the liquid flow out on its own. With so much pressure, it might work...

Again, so sorry this is happening. If your weather is as hot as ours already, the heat is also stressing them... Tough girls...

Carla, the fluid didn't flow out. We had to suction it out. It may drain a bit more before the hole closes over, but getting over 5 ounces of fluid out of Ivy had to help her some, though it certainly won't cure her. FUnny thing is that Olivia's abdomen was very taut, so much so, I knew her skin would rip or her lungs would collapse. Ivy's abdomen was still a tad pliable, though obviously full of stuff that shouldn't have been in there.

Good grief! That much fluid in a little chicken? Oh my ...... How much more can she take?
