WHERE can I get that T-shirt, Serrin!!!!

I dunno....don't think such a critter exists.... yet. Those are just my observations of my babies!

Hey! Ya really think it would sell? Hmmm....who would have thunk it? My chickens could be my ticket to fame and fortune!

Not that they'd give a rat's patootie, just so long as they still get their crumble, scratch, fresh alfalfa, free choice time in the gardens, and of course, hugs and cuddles all day long!

Hey Cyn! How are the girls doing in this heat? Will Ivy be coming back inside soon? Those sweet little ladies! When I saw the national weather forecast this morning, the first people I thought of were you and your girls and how you would be coping. I so hope they're keeping cool, as well as you and Tom!

They aren't thrilled and are very lethargic, but Tom built an overhang on the back of the coop they're in and they spend most of the day underneath it. He also filled a coffee container with water and put it underneath with them so they can drink without coming out into the sun. I just took that group a huge platter of scrambled eggs with cheese, yogurt and chopped up grapes.

Ooooh yummy!!!!

And lethargic as they are right now, I bet they still gobbled it up just as fast as they knew how!

We're finally forecasted to join you guys in a heat wave of our own, starting today! My old girls are real pros at these heat wave times, but the littles haven't experienced any such weather as yet. It will be very interesting to see how many of them take a page from the big girls play book and find the cool places around here.

Now I'm really glad I had the foresight to save some of the ice crystals from defrosting the freezer two months ago!

I've got a nice big bag of it in there and it's one of my big girls favorite treats in the summer time.

Hope y'all manage to stay cool this week Cyn. And to anyone else in the hot zones!

Just remember: Water, water WATER! Oh, and some for yourselves would be a good idea too!

Updating on my ailing girls:

Ivy is hanging on for dear life! That girl must have put away 2 lbs of grapes all by herself lately, LOL. She is still the same, but won't let go of this world yet.

Olivia is bad off, though. Her comb is turning purple, a first, and her abdomen is just huge--all the fluid has returned and increased, even. She just stands around, all hunched up.

Sadly, I think my Lexie is beginning to start with the internal laying. Her abdomen doesn't feel right, haven't had an egg from her in a month, even though she gets on the nest, then gets off and cackles. I fear she will go the same way and I was so hoping at least Lexie would be spared this horrid betrayal of her body.

She and Ivy were brooder mates, both four-and-a-half years old.
