My Journey Begins--1st time Incubating--Join Me!!

I also set mine on the 23rd! I so far have 14 BO's that were set on the 23rd, 15 marans set on the 24h and 15 welsummers that were set on the 26th. I hope they all hatch!! I can't see through the marans or the welsummer eggs so i will only toss them if they stink, so far so good! I just ordered another bator to make into a hatcher, I was going to make one, but then I decided well I had better just buy one. I don't have confidence in myself to make one!! I might try to make a cabnet bator with my husbands help!!

Can you add me to the list? This is my very first time, and I start my 20 eggs tonite (April 2nd). I'm using a Genesis 1588 w/ turner and will be incubating 12 Welsummer eggs from vicki2x2 and 8 Silver Penciled Rock eggs from ugly ducky. Good luck everyone!

Anyone else candling yet? I candled my buff silkies last night and have 6 of 7 with embryos. The 7th has a blood ring. That means it was fertile, but something went wrong, correct?

Don't forget me!!! 8 in bator on 3/29 late....have more eggs coming today via USPS from Fred in Alabama....hope they make it ok!!! they will go in tomorrow morning or late tonight if they come today...let them settle a bit

Oh can I be added? I'm not using an incubator though, I'm using my cochin. I put mine under her 3/26. 7 Serama eggs. Candled at 5 days and at least 2 had veins!!

So can I join too?

Day 13

Boy, I've been really sick and really busy once I finally got well, and the days have just flown by! We are going to candle again tomorrow night with a real candler instead of just a flash light. My daughter has done a terrific job turning the eggs three times a day and today she noticed one was cracked. She thinks she dropped it slightly, so I follow the great advice I've read here, and we put some candle wax on the end of the egg to cover the crack. It's right over where the air pocket would be, so I'm a little worried about that, but at least it's worth a try. We have 31 eggs in the bator still and I'm so excited to see what we will see tomorrow. Temps have been pretty consistent at 100-102, and humidity has been between 40-60%, so I hope that's all right. We are getting our chicks on Wednesday from the feed store, and the eggs will hatch about a week later. Things are going to be suddenly busy with chicks around here! I"m really nervous and excited!

I'll check out the Newbie thread. How cool to win something. I don't mind at all that so many people have joined me in their first journey of hatching eggs. We all have to start somewhere!!! Kristy

I was candeling some of my eggs for a friend and his young son and dropped one 2" and it cracked. I told them it was bustedcated.
I said I was sorry and mentioned since I started them on 3/22 , Let us see what was inside instead of throwing it to the garbage disposer.............

They declined............


RRRRRRRRRRRRRR it went into the disposer.
