I've been raising six baby factory farm chickens in my bedroom. I got them on November 17, 2022.
Welcome To BYCI was going to treat three of my baby chicks that have curled toes...
I guess that's going to have to wait now.
Thank you for the advice.Welcome To BYC
I'm sorry to hear about your chick.
If the wing is broken, bone is exposed and she's in pain, the best thing is to seek vet care.
Ask you Mom to help you with this.
Photos of how you raise your chicks may be helpful. At 4months old and being meat birds(?) they would likely do much better outside in their own space so they have plenty of room and lessen the chance of future injuries. They would also hopefully be secured in their own space where animals can't cause injuries as well.
You mention you were going to treat 3 of them for curled toes? At 4 months of age, treating curled toes would likely prove difficult if the toes have been curled for a long period of time. Usually this occurs at hatch or a day or so afterward and would not to be taken care of before the bones set. You can try giving them extra b vitamins to see if that helps. 1/4 tablet B-Complex for a week would be o.k.
Like I said... I skipped and didn't read everything. I try to treat everyone the same here and offer advice where I can. Just in case.Like I said...
It ain't my first rodeo raising broilers. No matter what species of chicken it is...I will rescue them. Also, they were raised in my room because when I got them, it was basically winter. They are going to be outside in a chicken coop this spring when we get the fencing up.
Thank you for the advice.
Worse choice of pet or not, I will still rescue them. Sure...they don't live long, but it's the memories you make with them that matters the most to me. People take loss differently...I've never dealt with breaks. Going to need pics of the injury. Videos of how she holds it will help.
@Wyorp Rock, can you try to offer assistance?
I think I skimmed and saw that it was a meat bird? I want to offer some advice. My son is autistic. He forms deep attachments to his pets. He doesn't take loss well. A meat bird is the absolute worst choice for a pet for anyone. Please choose a heritage breed next time. You'll get to enjoy them a lot longer, and not have any of the issues that come with meat birds.![]()
