Al,
for you and your mom. It's gotta be hard to watch his convalescence.

sooooooo
dad was out of ICU for half a day, then got put back in.
Because he refused to ever do therapy for his tongue, he can't swallow well.... because he can't swallow properly the spit in his mouth sits there and then thickens into a snot like substance that he has to spit out or hack out if it slides down his throat.
With the operation spitting and hacking is more difficult, so all of the nasty was sliding into his lungs making it hard for him to breathe.
anyway... after being back in ICU for awhile. .. and his breathing getting worse, and he hadn't been able to sleep at all since the operation. ...
well, he opted to get intubated again, and then knocked out.
soooo. that is what they did.
He is going to be out for 48 hours. While he is out they will clean out the guck that was building up in his bronchial tubes.
my mom is thrilled... she doesn't think this is life threatening, and is happy to have a 48 hour vacation. She updated me quickly because she was SO happy that she had gotten to leave the hospital, eat what SHE wanted to eat for supper (and it was good, she went out for Thai food), and she is now in bed with a bowl of popcorn about to watch Netflix.

Yep, I gather it goes with the breed. Bred to be out on the range with the flock and the range wasn't a back yard. If they can see it or smell it, it is their "property" to guard. He did however have a VERY large "home range", which meant he would not stay near the house if he got out. He would just go!
exactly! He needed a fence, there was no way he would have stayed near home without it. But, of all of the dogs I have owned, he needed the least amount of exercise. I think because Great Pyrenees were supposed to just sit there with the sheep. . not herd or chase, or whatever. Just sit.Yep, I gather it goes with the breed. Getaclue, Friday, a couple coming your way!![]()
Yep, you would think they are dead lying there on the ground but their ears and noses are ALWAYS working. When they perceive a threat they are FAST. Up from "dead" and a hundred feet away in a few seconds. My minimal experience with an actual guardian GP says they lounge a fair bit during the day. Probably fewer predators around. Some are wired to be patrollers (walk the fence line) and some watchers (stay close to the animals). Come night they will warn away anything they are concerned about. If they aren't concerned with anything they will sleep ... with the ear antenna set to "super sensitive" and their accelerator at the ready.I think because Great Pyrenees were supposed to just sit there with the sheep. . not herd or chase, or whatever. Just sit.
Doing good, PT starts tomorrow. Ask me if I'm excited.exactly! He needed a fence, there was no way he would have stayed near home without it.
