My leukemia's back.

Okay guys, just sitting around wondering if I am going to get salmonella or worse. Didn't feel like cooking today. So bought a hefty smoked turkey leg. I have gotten them before at other stores and apart from hating the smokey taste, they were okay.

At lunch I was multitasking eating slices off the leg (very hard to slice by the way and meat not looking smooth like I remember it being but :idunno, doing my word find puzzle book and talking on the phone.

At some point I realized the turkey didn't taste like turkey or smokey, the color of meat was wrong, etc. and maybe it wasn't cooked. Got out a pair of reading glasses and read the tiny label saying to cook to 165 degrees etc. WTH, I figured if it was smoked it must have been cooked.:th

This was too much to contemplate when I have a perpetual lack of sleep. So I took a nap.I just got up. My question is if I get salmonella or worse how long does it take to show up? I know I am a person at high risk due to age, dumbness and other factors.

If I am going to be plagued with the "trots," vomiting etc. I guess I shouldn't go out shopping this weekend. What say you?

PS still off of ice cream - doesn't bother me at all- jeans keep falling down- good except my new ones (several pair) are too big now:barnie
You should know soon.

Within 24hrs of consumption I would think.

:hugs

I would suspect that you have about a 20% chance of getting sick from it.

Lets hope you are in the 80% safe though!

Yep... colorblindness is a simple sex linked gene... it rides on the X.

My dad was colorblind... so he got it from his mom (she could see colors but was very poor at matching). But I actually do not know if she got the colorblind X from her mom or dad... don't know if great-grandad was colorblind.
IF your dad was color blind How did he become a surgeon? :pop

He only had trouble in the chemistry class... you know when you put so many drops into the solution and wait until it turns pink?

So..... he put in a jillion drops, until HE could see it. Then a friend of his dad made a mathematical formula for him (all those guys were doctors), so my dad would plug the number of drops that he had used... and the formula would give him the number of drops normal people would have used.... he didn't ace that class... but he muddled through.

He said surgery was fine, all parts have different textures etc., ditto with infected tissue.

The only thing that he could not do was ear infections.

I remember as a kid, he would have my mom look, he would ask her questions about what she saw, then he would diagnose.

With cooking steak or chicken he learned to tell the difference by the texture changing. It takes practice though.

I was always really impressed that my dad was always proud of us kids....

He never once showed any indication that he was disappointed that none of us were doctors.

May dad was the 4th doctor in the family (4th generation). But the first... was actually a Pharmacist with a drug store. My dad though said that since that was back before 1900, it counted as the same thing. :hu

If the leg was actually smoked, the oven part is usually just to heat it, not to actually cook it. Like with a ham.
You can get some liquid smoked meat that is not safe to eat unless it is cooked--like a fresh ham. Since the package instructions said to heat to 160F, It is not likely cooked
