My leukemia's back.

Out at the new place with the septic inspector today. It needs a complete new system. The old tank is cast iron, tiny and not draining like it's supposed to. Ballpark off the top of his head.....15K.

We'll see what the inspector and contractor say next week. I'm thinking the seller is going to have to adjust the price down a bit so we can get financing. But, we'll keep plugging along and see what happens.....
Shouldn't the seller bring it up to code?

When we moved, the PO had added on to the house but not the septic system, so the house was "too big" for the system. They had to double the size of the septic field before we moved in. We didn't have to do anything.

We're buying it as is, so I'm pretty sure it's up to us. The seller had told us he was pretty sure it would need a new system. It is a bit overwhelming, though. And the sellers are simply going to have to understand, it's up to the finance folks. If it doesn't appraise for enough to finance, they're going to have to come down on the price. I understand they want to clear a specific amount, but I'd like to get 150K for my place---that's not going to happen. So, I'm just going to keep on track and see how it plays out.

I think we may have a buyer for our place. They just left, seemed very interested and going to go talk to their money person. Yippee!

Rachel, keeping my fingers crossed the seller of your new place adjusts the price so the septic repair isn't a huge deal.

And you may have a buyer? That's great...another thing to keep fingers crossed for!

figured a few extra crossed fingers can only be a good thing)

As-is does put a different spin on things. Hopefully they'll give you a big credit to cover! I do know every area is different, but here a house can't close until the septic passes code and is reinspected.

Hoping for the best! Fingers crossed here too.

I only have a couple years left till my house is paid off.... I thought of remortgaging to build a polebarn... But my credit isn't great. I fear the thought of payments again.... I paid this 30 year mortgage of in less than 20 though.... Dang I don't know...

Well, if you're that close to paying it off maybe you can just wait, get the house paid off and then save what you'd have been paying towards the mortgage for a few months to start building on the barn??

Think away, Phil, and no need at all to apologize??? You are absolutely correct that it is a difficult balance to strike with your health having the potential of continued deterioration.
