My leukemia's back.

Oh Don. Oh Rachel. Dear Heavenly Father, we lift this situation up to you. You alone are in control. We lift our dear sister and her husband and children up to you and plead with you to lay your healing hand upon her. A miracle is needed. They have been through so very much. Rachel's loving spirit has touched so many lives through this thread. Only You can bring blessing out of such apparent misery. Please lay your hand upon Rachel, give her Your healing, Your comfort, and above all, give her a never ending peace and knowledge that she is held firmly in your grip.

Hi all! The is her Honey posting to update you all. Thank you all for the love and support and for being such an group for her to belong to. She has asked that I tell you all what's going on, so please grab some tissues and sit down.

Rachel had received another round of induction chemotherapy for her leukemia. During her time of little to no immune system, she developed a systematic fungal infection and a bad pneumonia. The pneumonia has simce resolved. She has had one sinus surgery and two eye surgeries combatting the fungus. Rachel has lost her left eye in the process and can not see out of her right eye. The ophthalmologists have said that they will continue to follow her, but unless the infectious disease team can find something else, all they can do is wait to see what her immune system and the iv antifungals will do for her vision.

The fungus has been found in her brain during a mri. The doctors say they are watching for any progression through symptoms.

They believe that the leukemia is currently in remission due to current blood tests, but have not been able to confirm with a bone marrow biopsy. Even if it is, they would need to do a few rounds of consolidation chemotherapy to do it properly. The real problem is that they can not give her more chemotherapy until at least 90 days after the fungal infection is under control. It is still not under control. :(

Unfortunately, this is only the tip of the iceberg. As you may already know, graft versus host disease has already damaged her lungs. Her damaged lungs and chemotherapy have damaged her heart. I have been in the hospital with her for these many weeks and I can tell you she is a fighter! I believe that God is with us! The doctors say she is currently beating the odds. She is still here fighting! Thank you again for everything! With love, Don of donrae

Rachel and Don and family, my heart goes out to you all along with prayers going up to our Have Father. I don't know you but I'm going to be with you through the rest of this test. I too have a family member that is dealing with cancer ( stage 4 brain cancer to be exact)- well to be honest I don't really know him but he's the man who helped conceive me but that's another story. Now to get back to you and your situation if you're able to I would like you to listen to the following song, "BLESSINGS" by Laura Story. Every since the very first time I heard that song it has helped me get through some of the difficult times in my life.

Oh my, just seeing this thread. My prayers go out to her and all of the family! We also have a family member fighting cancer. My husbands brother has..had..stage 4 stomach cancer. I say had, because he has had 3/4 of his stomach removed. Now going through all of the other .. and, is on his last week of radiation. It's so hard when you have a loved one that is is pain. God helps him through it all. Prayer is so powerful! Prayers for Rachel. :hugs

Thousands of words in the dictionary and I can't find two to put together that make any sense. First of all, thanks for the update. I know you have a lot on your plate, Don, but it helps us to know that she is fighting hard and you are by her side. We all love her so much!

We are there too. Tell her that we are right behind her, just over her shoulder, and we are all in this together. Hugs to the you and the boys too. Prayers and support are all we can offer her right now, but we have plenty of both!
