Mornin', Rachel, a little Easter treat for you. Bite the heads off first - it's less traumatic to them that way. Have a SUPER day, and Happy Easter to Team Rachel.
It's a Blessed morning here on Oleo Acres. Sun is shining, birds are twittering, and Scout found his crower a couple of days ago so we were up early! Whatever possessed us to put that coop 15 feet from the bedroom window? <sigh> Heading across the street in a few minutes for Kendra's first Easter Egg hunt. Her big sister Katiebug and cousin Evan will be there to help her, and if I know them Kendra will end up with the most eggs.
Rachel, I hope your Easter visit with Honey and Cadbury is perfect! I must confess that I don't like chocolate - or even any candy - very much. Don't know why I weigh so much, unless it's because my idea of the perfect bedtime snack is a pork chop. So you and the rest of the team can enjoy all of mine in addition to yours.
How I spend my summers if I'm stuck in the house and the hummers are outside!
@Blooie , I noticed the liquid in your hummer feeders is clear. Do you just make up a simple syrup with sugar and water? I've been using the commercial stuff that has red coloring in it but if you're making your own, I'd like to know how. (If you want to share your bird secrets, that is.)
I just mix up 1 cup sugar to 4 cups of water. I usually boil the mixture gently for no more than 2 minutes because I make such a big batch at once and store it in the fridge. It seems to stay fresher if I do the boiling. But for a couple of feeders if you're filling as needed, that's not necessary. Just mix and pour. I have 11 feeders going all summer long.
