I've been a nurse for 25 years and had never heard of a viral UTI. Apparently they're pretty limited to transplant patients and antibiotics are useless. They cut the prednisone down yesterday to allow my immune system to start fighting the virus, but apparently it can still take a few weeks. They can only taper the steroids so fast without risking graft vs host, which I don't want. So, basically I need to just suck it up and deal with it.
Blooie, sorry things are sluggish for your girl. ANC was something else I'd never dealt with. Never worked oncology at all. You get leukemia, that number is your lifeline. It says when you get chemo, when you can eat certain things, when you get to go home, everything. Praying her system rebounds for her next round of chemo.
Day 40!!!! And honestly, if this infection is the worst thing that happens, woo hoo!
Gosh, it HAS been 40 days already, hasn't it? Those pesky viral UTIs are a pain because, like you said, they pretty much have to be fought off by us, when fighting anything off is the last thing we want to do. Kendra and I both have compromised immune systems even without the addition of steroids, so I can't even imagine how much worse it would be for you to be trying to deal with so many things at once! The medicine I mentioned that they sometimes use to fight them off is something that both Kendra and I have avoided so far. We watch hard for anything viral because little ones with myleomeningocele and hydrocephalus are so prone to meningitis besides everything else they deal with.
Ash's numbers have finally come up enough for them to be comfortable resuming the chemo. She got started again yesterday. So keeping the prayers going for "the girls." Rachel, you don't know how much following your story has helped me support Jenna and Ashley. You are golden!
Morning my friends. I could use some prayers this morning. I woke up last night because my heart was beating very irregularly and rapid. Called the medics and got transported to the ED. There are some changes on my EKG and they want to do a stress test, but my BP is too high. I'm pretty sure the UTI is driving my BP up, I literally can't lay still long enough to do the procedure. My symptoms have resolved for the most part and I feel okay, but these tests are important and I'm not sure how I'm going to get them done. Please pray for peace and good test results when we finally get them done.
