Rachel, I made an afghan based on the "log cabin" quilting pattern a few years ago (this is one "square.") Obviously, this is probably more involved than anything that Echo would be up for, but I just wanted to show you what this looks like. The "fabric" is all just single stitches, and the designs are worked by cross-stitching in a contrasting color of yarn. It's easy, it's quick, and you can get some great effects, depending on your patience and skill level.

Yes. If I ever do it again, I may tone the colors down a bit. As a square, it's not too bad, but the whole thing is a bit bold.

There's a band of the holly pattern that goes around the whole thing to sort of tie it all together.

Yeah....my daughter surprised us and came home for Thanksgiving....we told her we weren't doing anything today...guess she's going to the American Legion for dinner too!
