My leukemia's back.

@donrae. How are you & life? Haven't heard from you in a couple days?

My brother has drove us almost to the brink of insanity about going canoeing with them. I can't swim. My kid can't swim. Not a fan of being in muddy water. Not suppose to be in the sun. Not sure what all he doesn't understand about that, but for months now he has hounded me. Today we are giving in just to shut him up. I hope no one drowns! I am nervous.:/

Good morning everyone

Business as usual here. The weather is beginning to cool off but the days are beautiful.

Outpost, be careful and try to have a good time!

Slather on the sunscreen, wear a life jacket (we made everyone wear 'em when I worked at a summer camp), and have fun! It's canoeing, not whitewater kayaking; nobody should wind up in the water.

We had a canoe for years; took dogs out in it and even our kids once they were big enough to follow the instruction to "sit still." Hubby sold it a few years ago because everybody had kinda lost interest, though . . . . Of course, now he's back into sailing, which nobody else is interested in.

Still, he has fun; that's the point, right?

Cool. breezy. light rain here; the tail end of Hermine. Wound up being mostly a rain event for us. Thank the Lord, the weather had been a tick on the drier side of normal here previously, and this crazy, peaty stuff we have for soil can absorb a lot; most of the mess of last night has been absorbed already.

Bunny, glad Hermine didn't cause you any serious problems. If you have any extra rain, could you point it in our direction?

Canoeing has a bad reputation. Most canoes are far more stable than folks think they are. You're more apt to get dunked by walking on a rocky shore than you are in a canoe on still water. I got out in my kayak again today. Unfortunately, we've not gotten out as much in the last few years. So peaceful on that lake. I got within 20' of a great blue heron. 2 weeks ago, my BIL got very close to a couple of bald eagles on the same shore, both of them sporting their white head gear. Glad they weren't near my chickens! I even had my 9 month old ants in her pants puppy in my kayak with me. She spent a very short while trying to drain the lake. Then, she took a flying leap over the side, and swam to shore. I didn't get dumped... even in a kayak (which has even worse rep than a canoe) and with a jumpy dog hanging over the side. Wouldn't have taken her out deep!!! Wear a life jacket, stay low in the middle, obey paddling instructions, try not to drink the lake, and you'll be fine. Might even have a good time. I have an old lady geek hat that I love to wear when on the water that keeps the sun out of my face and off the back of my neck.

Hi all

. Sorry long time no see.....

Honey had vacation this last week. We went on a day trip with the boys on the weekend, then did stuff around the house, then he and I took off for a few days on the coast. He caught his very first salmon, and I got to sit on the beach for hours and read a book and eat fudge---how great was that? Livestock auction today, I bought a pen with 4 hens and a little white rooster. I really wanted 2 of the hens (Faverolles and brown Leghorn), was happy with one (young barred Rock) and indifferent about the other (maybe hatchery Wellie, maybe mixed breed) and did NOT want the little guy. As I was transferring them from the sale cage into my crate, I just kind of called out "anyone want this cute little rooster?" and some lady was all over him

. I was thrilled not to have to bring him home, she was thrilled to get him. He was probably thrilled to go with her, cause here it would have been snap his neck and feed him to the piggies....so everyone called it a win. Except the piggies, I guess, but they don't know they're missing out so it's all good.

Outpost, how's that hen's eye? I had kind of a similar thing a few months ago. Hen had respiratory crap, gave antibiotics....she got better, but the sinus abcessed or something. She had a huge hard knob between eye and beak. A friend came over and we did a huge incision and drainage into the poor bird's head. We got so, so much crap out of there, I thought she was going to go into shock or something. Fully expected her to die. I wish we'd taken pics. Slathered bag balm on it, put her in an isolation cage for about 2 days then she was stressing out being by herself. That was about 2ish months ago, I think. Now, I honestly can't tell which hen she is. No scar, nothing, and we had her open a good inch long, just this gaping hole to dig all that solidified pus out. I mean, I'm a nurse and I specialized in wound care before I got sick, and I was a little sick at how far we dug into her sinus......the recovery was amazing. So, if she's not better, maybe you can find someone to help you incise that?

Phil.....I'm trying to come to terms with the breathing thing also. Like I told you, I had to bump up the prednisone while on vacation. It's funny, I was so highly motivated to get off that med when they put me back on it....now, I'm more okay wiht it. don't get me wrong, I'd love to be off. But it makes me feel so much better.....why not stay on? I mean, what are mood swings, checking your blood sugar, injecting insulin, mood swings, thin bones, mood swings, crying jags, screaming meltdowns, oh and did I mention mood swings? when compared to being able to breathe

I'll get on my phone and add some pics from the coast....
