My leukemia's back.

Nope. We kind if just let it slide for the weekend, but I'm emailing our realtor now. Not sure if I said this here, but we're thinking to just start moving into the house. Occupy it and take the parrot hostage, see if that will speed up a response

Morning all!

Today will basically be a "clean all the animals' stuff" day. There are worse things, right?

I have three clutches of chicks about 2 months old. With the time and effort it took to butcher those roosters last week, I'd just decided to start culling them young and not worry about butchering.

But then, last night, I realized I'm going to want a replacement for Tom next spring....so that means keeping probably a few to choose from. I guess I'll have to decide what I want color-wise, and pick out a few to grow out.

I don't like the idea of culling chicks, they're so small and cute and it's hard to get past. Put doing 4 roosters in one day literally wiped me out for the rest of the day, and even the next day I wasn't much good hand-wise. Plus, these are layer bred birds, so there's really not much meat there. I'm going to have to just put on the big girl panties and get over it.

4 more roosters in the grow out pen. None of them are really potential keepers, but they all seem pretty light weight. I'll maybe wait a few more weeks, but I'm really wanting that pen space! I'm trying to pick up a few Delaware hens today......that's another breeding project, of course.

Can you throw them up on CL/FB BST as grow out meat birds - even if you give them away you are ahead of the game because you aren't culling them young (gaining nothing) or having to process them yourself (gaining the meat)?

I could, but I'm not sure it would be worth fielding the calls, etc. I took over a dozen really pretty 4-6 month old cockerels to my sale last month and had zero interest.

Anyway, running out of steam today. Honey's feeling kinda off also, so we may be coming down with something.

We did get a counter offer on the house, finally! We'll discuss it and talk with the realtor this pm and see how it goes.

Good luck Rachel...hope that it's a good offer!

Well, we're still kicking around the counter offer on the 5 bedroom. We found another property that looks very nice, it's got an older (89) manufacured home that's had a lot of work done to it. Flat ground, pasture, little orchard, barn, garage, looks pretty much perfect. But, apparently the home had been moved there after it was set up somewhere else, and that means the bank won't finance it. I've got one other place to try calling today, then we'll have to give up on that. Unless the sellers will drop the price by about a third, then we can buy it and demo the current home and put a new one----but I don't think they'll do that

. Maybe we'll ask about owner financing?

Wet and rainy today. I think it's a day to make Broccoli cheddar soup and maybe some homemade breadsticks
