"THEY" (??) say the carbonation in pop is what is especially harmful. IF a glass of pop sits around for hours and it is warm & all the fizz is gone - does that mean carbonation would no longer be a threat ?

I Don't understand why the carbonation would be harmful.... it's just CO2.... would that mean Champaign would be harmful too?

Yes, it is no longer a threat without the carbonation - because you won't drink it anyway.
