Here in MN, you even have to have a vault for your coffin. Can't just put the box in the ground.I think that might depend on what state you live in.

That is pretty sad, sounds like money grubbing. I can understand it in a place like New Orleans where the coffins float out of the ground. Here in MN, you even have to have a vault for your coffin. Can't just put the box in the ground.
Makes you wonder, doesn't it? When my Grandma died last fall, and we were making arrangements, we picked the least expensive (still $1500!) vault. The funeral home guy said, "We have this, but it's not waterproof" I told him, "That's OK - Grandma's not going to care anyway."That is pretty sad, sounds like money grubbing. speaking of gross things - were we? My friend on the senior bus is always talking about being cremated so there is no funeral or cemetary bills. She said she doesn't care if they just dump her ashes in the trash.
Personally I don't believe in cremation - in my faith you are supposed to return with all you were born with. At any rate it makes me very upset to hear her talk about it and she has been doing it for the 10.5 years I know her. Just too gruesome for me. It's her choice if she really wants that - I just want her to stop talking about it.![]()

I told DH to save the funeral costs, take the skid loader, dig a hole out behind the barn and dump me in. Unfortunately, I think there are laws that wouldn't allow that...

My brothers forced my mom to get the "premium" vault with a "lifetime guarantee" because apparently dad's going to know if he gets cold and wet after he gets buried.....Makes you wonder, doesn't it?
