My leukemia's back.

I had a friend who would make TV dinners for her son when he was in college going for his masters. She bought those paper plates with sections and would make a complete family sized meal and then fill the paper plates, vacuum seal and freeze them for him. He would come home sometimes (when he could) to help her by doing all the dishes. Her husband at the time would yell at her for "spoiling" her adult son. However, anytime his son or daughter "stopped by" to visit and left with another "loan" it was OK and his business.

She should have told him that her kid wasn't going to "borrow" money for "Jenny Craig"
she was going to make him "diet" meals because it was cheaper....

Phill I know some single people hate to cook for themselves because it's difficult to cook just for 1 like how do you make a meatloaf easily for one? or a lasagna or make a large one of either and not get burned out on it before it gets bad. but I met someone years ago that went to come yard sales and bought up boxes of margarine and cool whip tubs for little or nothing (this was many years ago before we got dollar stores in our area) and this one guy washed them all up and bought up supplies on sale and made pots full of soup (chili, veg. beef, and the like) and spaghetti, lasagna, meat loafs and divided the stuff out into ind. servings and some containers 3-4 servings after the first time forgetting to label all he did after was label something like meatloaf, whole 10/11/12: meatloaf w/ m.potatoes/corn 11/21/17. so he made his "TV dinners" I think last I heard many years after meeting this person I saw him again and asked him about it, he refined it to in essence entries only, (apparently he made some sides ahead but only a limited amount of stuff that you could not find in a can or get a serving form a bag of frozen vegetables like mashed potatoes and green bean casserole and he made a "fertilizer load" *edited* of those and divided up into about 3-4 servings each) entrees was usually divided into 2-4 servings sometimes single serve depending on what it was.He also laughed he got some gallon jars with lids that he canned home made soups and ham and beans. also he made a few items like a couple of whole meatloaves or whole pans of pasta froze them to thaw out later for pitch ins and some people would never know that he would just cook for a week solid every couple of months and then barely touch a stove or microwave oven for weeks on end....
Yup....I freeze a lot of stuff..... We are two people with the freezers.... And a spare bedroom for a pantry.... Wall to wall canned goods..... My wife is a good canner.
Her problem is she never learned to cook for two.... She still cooks meals like there is five people living here.

Well if they have way more than they need and are saving for post work so they can continue the lifestyle, why not? All the people getting their extra money need it more than they do.

Though I agree on the food thing. Just because you can afford to eat out all the time doesn't mean you need to eat poorly.
It's taken me a long time to come to grips with my son's success.... Not because I don't want him to be successful.... But because every time I see him wasting money or paying someone to do something I feel he should be doing it urks me.....I see them raising their kids with money as party of the equation too and they aren't developing a sense of economic value because they just get everything that want anyways without having to work for it....... If something gets lost or broken..... Theres no pain ..... They just get a new one....regardless.
See now I'm starting to rant..... My wife and I try to correct this when they stay here... And the kiddos do listen.
My granddaughter Claire is super picky eater.... At home she mostly only eats grilled cheese and pizza.... Up here she eats everything and likes it...... Until she gets home.
Minute she walks in that door.... Grilled cheese and pizza.
The other thing I enjoy..... Their other grandparents are wealthy.... Professors at Michigan State University...... The kids said they like coming here more.... Even thought we live in a shack in the woods.
Here they shoot BB guns..... Pick berries.... Go fishing..... And when they are in town.... People bring their kids over to play with them.
Downstate they pretty much only have each other. No neighbor kids around them.

12 kids here between the 2 of us. Money was tight at times for sure. DH ended up working 2 jobs..one part time. Our kids paid for everything ...big..that they wanted. Cars, education. We have 3 nurses in the family, one, just got her nurses degree a few years back, with 3 children. She's worked at the State Hospital for close to 25 years, that's Utah County's Mental hospital. Started low on the totem pole, now a nurse and a boss. She will have a great retirement plan. Another daughter is in the the delivery room helping deliver babies, while another daughter is in the NICU in the same hospital. Teacher, truck driver, a son that has worked in the nursing facility and in charge of the diet area for years, another is in occupational therapy, big big boss there, all own their own homes but our son with Spina Bifida. Rents, not sure if he could handle owning a home. At least he's out on his own. Ok. Bragging done, hope point taken. These kids worked hard while getting where they are today. Had a great example in watching dad take care of them. We had fun doing the camping, fishing, hiking. Going to Disneyland was a treat. Now they are making their own memories with their families and making us grandparents, and, great grandparents. Just found out that we have another great on the way! Sharing a photo from Thanksgiving Day. This isn't even half of our family, at one of our sons home. Come Christmas, we will have to reserve a church building to get is all in. Whoot! ..ok.a couple of photos. Sure would be fun to see some of yours too!
