My leukemia's back.

I think the no longer effective antibiotics is due to doctors not taking the time to make sure it is bacterial instead of viral.... and LOTS of people not taking the entire bottle of antibiotics.

I think doctors are getting better with making sure it is bacterial..... but if you know the first kid got a bacterial infection... well... easy to know the rest will get it too. I also think they are fleecing us.
So agree! Lucky my doc agrees to testing for strep before giving anti biotics. Just recently went with a sore throat. Kind of hoped it was strep, it's treatable, and I usually get better..faster than if it's viral. That's pretty much the norm. A well known norm. ;)

GAC perhaps a call to CPS against the teacher/school is in order. Have DD tell them she feels as though her son is being put into a situation where mental/verbal abuse is possible since the Dr's cannot get proper info from the school and the potential abuse of the other Dr. trying to get the school to completely ignore a doctor that has treated her child for quite a while, not a simple 15 minute or so interview (if that much)...
Have no fear, this will all be resolved. There is a chain of command regarding things like this in our school system, which these teachers ignored. That's a complete no-no.

Teachers are to report things like this to the school psychologist. The school psychologist informs the principal, and counselor, then they set up a conference with the parent(s) to get everyone on board. This is when the school is to inform the parent(s) there may be a learning problem. At this time, concerns, and any information, such as the child(ren) being diagnosed, or treated for anything pertaining to their possible learning problem is discussed. Permission to contact doctors, or professionals involved in the diagnosing, and/or treatment of the child(ren) are obtained at this time, if needed. A plan on how to proceed, depending on the situation, is discussed. This could have already been done, had the teachers not bypassed the rules, and taken it on themselves to diagnose, and use veiled threats on my daughter. I suspect they'll get their come-uppance when it all hits the fan, and it WILL be hitting the fan in the near future.

@getaclue I am always amazed at the audacity of teachers some times, what is going on is totally uncalled for. I glad that your daughter has the strength of a tiger mom to advocate for her child.
It sounds like there is a great system set up for taking care of the children that need intervention, it is a shame that the teachers couldn't follow the rules.

There are plenty of things to criticize about our educational system here, but taking care of "learning needs" is not one of them. Lazy teachers, on the other hand, those just wanting to get through the day, and earn their paycheck, is not uncommon, and is now being dealt with. About 3 years ago, we implemented a new state-wide system. All schools are to be taught the same curriculum, and in the database. All students, even those with learning needs, MUST show at least a 10% improvement during the course of the school year. This gives a more clear cut indication of the teachers' job performance, and this is factored into their pay scale, and job security. Principals are to keep their teachers on par with the expected performance, or they too can come under fire.

The lazy teachers want to teach their class as one, teaching everyone the same thing, at the same speed, or just pass out assignments. They don't want to spend time giving a bit of extra help for the few that are a little behind, struggling, or have a bit of a learning gap, but don't qualify for special needs classes. They don't want to spend time with the few that are more advanced, but not quite ready for advanced classes. It cuts into their teacher lounge time, hanging with the other teachers in the office, checking facebook, and playing games on their tablets, or reading the latest novel. The lazy teachers, instead of buckling down, and teaching like they should, are looking for ways to get away with their laziness. While tactics like what they're pulling on my grandson, have worked in the past, it's catching up with them now.

A great example of this is, when my daughters went to middle school, two of their teachers would go into the supply closet, and smoke weed, come out and entertain themselves on their laptops. They didn't really teach the class, they just had the students quietly do assignments. The kids knew it, and I suspect everyone else did too. One of the teachers was an alcoholic, and you could smell it on his breath, over the breath mints, and gum. During the past 2 school years, 1 of them was arrested on the school grounds for smoking weed, the drunk was fired for coming to school intoxicated, and the other pot smoker was fired for poor job performance. As I said, the principals are now expected to tow the line too, and they can no longer afford to let these slackers get a free pass.

on that instance it may have been easier to prove the latter rather than the former so fire him for what you can...

It's all starting to hit the fan, so to speak. Dd checked out my grandson for his psychological appointment. When she was trying to check him back in, one of his teachers came to the office, called Dd outside, to talk to her. The teacher said that even though my grandson's absences are excused, the classwork, and homework assignments he's missing while he's in therapy, are not, and he's falling too far behind, so they're about to downgrade him, yet again. My daughter asked why they were not sending his assignments home, for him to catch up on. The teacher said that it's the teachers' policy not to send the missed work home, unless requested through the agenda, by the parent. Why have they waited 3 months to tell her this? Why didn't they tell her at the beginning of the school year, about their policy, when she talked to his teachers, explaining he had therapy, and asked him to send home any missed work?

She asked about the downgrading, and the comment about downgrading him YET AGAIN. What Tier do they have him downgraded to? The teacher was shocked that she even knew about the Tier system. They downgraded him to a Tier 2, and are about to downgrade him to a Tier 3. She asked what could be done to help him, and possibly get him caught back up to normal levels. The teacher said that once they're downgraded from mainstream, into the Tier system, it's permanent, and there is no way to move him up, or get him caught up.

There seems to be a further problem with excused absences. When the office gets the doctor's note excusing the absence, and the school excuses the absence, the teachers mark it as unexcused, unless they too are provided with a copy of the doctor's note.

DD walked back into the office, checked my grandson in, and as she was leaving, tears began streaming down her face. The secretary asked what was wrong. Dd began explaining that her son needed therapy, and while the school was excusing the time he was out, and in therapy, the teachers were holding it against him, and downgrading him in the Tier system, because of his absences. The secretary asked if my daughter would wait about 15 minutes, and speak to a certain guidance counselor. She did.

When she began explaining things to the guidance counselor, the guidance counselor began asking more, and more questions. They talked for over an hour. As it began to unravel about what was going on, and the counselor was very upset at the teachers. She assured my daughter that there is a big failure to communicate, this is NOT even close to how any of this should have been being handled, which is a real nice way of saying that the teachers have screwed up big time, tried to bypass the regulations to continue being lazy, while keeping their teaching scores up, and they are BUSTED. While it was not stated outright, from a couple comments made, it's not the first time they've been caught bypassing the system, to make themselves look good.

In addition, it might be these teachers' policy not to send home any work unless specifically requested each time, written in the agenda, but this is NOT school policy, and the teachers have no right making policies like this, on their own. As to not excusing his absences, that too seems to be a policy the teachers are making, but it's NOT the school's policy. The counselor pulled up his absences. None, other than the twice a month therapy sessions, and only for a couple hours on those days. No reason for them to downgrade him. There's more, but I won't go into it all now.

The school counselor is going to call his psychologist, and get the school psychologist on board too. They will comb through everything, get the mess straightened out, and get a game plan going on how to best help my grandson. I have no doubt that before it's all over, the teachers are going to get their come-uppance too.

:eek:Wow!

I hope this all gets sorted out soon

If it does not clear up after these 2 do what they can get all the documentation and go to the school board with it, or better yet the local TV news...

It will get cleared up. See, what I know is that we have a solid legal case against the school system, because of last year, and the same slip shod practices continuing in this school too. While they hope we don't know this, they are aware of it, and will do whatever necessary to get things straightened out, to avoid lawsuit.
