my little chicken Warts... Hen?

As has already been mentioned, first thing to do is fill a basin with warm water and dissolve about a half cup of Epsom salts in it. Let those feet soak for twenty minutes.

Then wrap him/her in a towel tightly to confine the wings, leaving the feet hanging out. The dirt should have mostly soaked off and the scabs should be soft. With your finger nail scrape all black scabs off. Remove them. Don't worry if it bleeds.

After that, you should be able to see the original wound where this began. If you take another photo of the foot after soaking and pulling away all the scabs, we can help you assess how bad it is and coach you on what to do next. You may need to administer an oral antibiotic in addition to a topical antibiotic ointment.

Buy a roll of Vetrap from the horse shelf at the feed store. Cut it into one-inch wide strips sixteen inches long. After you pack the wounds with ointment, use a non-stick pad over it and wrap snuggly with the elastic wrap. Begin the wrap up an inch up the shank, winding downward and in between each toe, and finsh the wrap at the ankle with the end at the back and press it firmly in place so it sticks to itself. That way you can let her/him stay in the coop and run with the others.

Check the wound in two days, and if it appears to be healing, just wash the wound and rebandage. If the wound looks wet and inflamed, you may need to repeat the long soak and do more surgery to try to remove any infected tissue.
