This is a great idea for something to look back on for years to come. Your babies are adorable! I just got six one week old chicks, but I have no idea what kinds they are as they're a barnyard mix. I'm going to start a thread for them as well, thanks for the idea.

Hi everyone!

I've been so excited to get chickens and finally had the opportunity to get some. I ordered chicks from Meyers a few months ago and they arrived yesterday (5-28-2020)!!

I ordered 14 total and unfortunately, 2 have died. All the rest are happy and thriving! It's so fun to watch them play and run around!

Just wanted to start a thread to keep track of pictures, tell stories and get any advise you all may have

Hi, how cool is that! We got our first ever from the local hardware store, and then I wanted Swedish Flower Hens so I got fertile eggs off EBay and hatched those, too. We put ours in pine shavings from the first day. Yes, they pecked and maybe ate a few little bits, but they never got sick. As long as you're poking your finger into the food as though your hand is 'eating' the baby food, they'll eat that, and you've showed them where/how the drinker is, yes?
I fretted about them "eating" the pine chips too, but they were - as stated - in them from the get-go and they were fine. I think if they do eat a few, it doesn't harm them. I worried, my partner didn't, and all are running around out in the run now! Here are ours, and you can see...pine shavings!

That's good to know about the pine shavings. They have been eating and drinking well but the minute I put pine shavings in they totally ignored their food. If I put food in my hand, they would run over right away though. I'm going to give a whirl again tomorrow!

Btw, I loved your video! So cute how they are pecking your ring.

Thank you so much! Apparently I didn't take a picute of my Wyandotte so I have to do that tonight

I took the paper towels off the pine shavings late last night and they did better with them. Still played with/nibbled them but not near like they did when I first put them down. They were all happy this morning! So glad to be done with the paper towels

Yeah, it doesn't take long for them to dirty those up! Glad they're doing well!

Blue/Splash Laced Red Wyandotte. Not sure which color she will be yet. My friendliest chick right now. Always the first to run up and eat from my hand!

Lastly, Blue Cuckoo Marans. Also very friendly!
