Mine get a little scratch grain everyday, but they LOVE grapes! I'll cut them in half and when they see me come out with the paper plate they come charging! I only throw a few down at a time and it's hilarious to watch them play keep away with them.
About once a week I'll take kale out for them, they get pretty happy about that too.
My girls get treats every morning. Usually little bit of whole grain bread, spinach or other greens, sprouts, peanuts and BOSS. This week they had plaintains, they were practically giving them away at the store in the reduced produce section. They eat almost anything and love to see me come with the treat dishes. I use two so they do not fuss too much. I also grow mealworms for them (the babies in the brooder love them). Even my hubby makes them treats if I can't get it done before work. After work, they are loose in the yard/garden. I do catering on some weekends, so then I bring home leftover steak, salmon and more greens. One weekend they had filet mignon. Man do they eat good. They lay all winter with the good diet. I am happy to do it. They are so appreciative.
If that were true my chickens would have been dead a loooooong time ago.
And according to the BYC Treat chart, not all fruit is okay to feed - no citrus for example.
My girls get a daily breakfast of cooked oatmeal mixed with scrambled eggs w/shells, plain yogurt and whatever veggie leftovers I have.
This morning it was a sweet potato skin.
The other day a tin of sardines (packed in water) for the extra protein.
I also treat with a scratch mix of 50/50 whole oats & BOSS.
If you really want to see a feeding frenzy toss them some raisins.
Mine are pretty spoiled as well. They get a treat daily. Cooked oatmeal with grapes, meal worms, crickets (now that's a funny site) or any fresh veggies I have. Once in awhile I give them scratch and boss if its cold in the morning.
Mine also get something every day. When it is cold they get oatmeal with corn and raisins mixed with a little Rooster Booster. In the summer they get a watermelon once a week. The get a little BOS and scratch every day. We also get bread at an outlet store sometimes, so they get some bread pieces mixed in with scrambled eggs occasionally. They also get mealworms weekly. When I clean out the fridge of leftovers at the end of the week, they are really in heaven!

What is Boss and Scratch? I have seen several of you mention it...
BOSS = Black Oil Sunflower Seed
Scratch is cracked corn and a couple of other grains mixed in. Not good for regular feed, more like "cotton candy" for chickens. It's pretty much empty calories, so I use it sparingly.

That's just ridiculous. My girls would have keeled over a long time ago if it were true! They get some kind of treat every day. Sometimes a little scratch with BOSS in it, leftover veggies, pasta, scrambled eggs, etc. We are vegetarian, so anything without a lot of salt or sugar. And bugs, lots of bugs! And weeds, they love dandelion greens and pigweed. When I don't have a treat with me, they are like, what the heck lady?
