My Little Red Hen needs Help!

I too seem to have a hen with this problem. She and others her age, about 13 or 14 months, have had dirty bottoms. And it's been hot, and there are other groups of younger who have been integrated into the main coop. The old girls consider them interlopers, so there has been some stress. Kinky has since before Easter laid large eggs with lots of liquid in the white, and the shells are very thin despite extra crushed oyster shell available. The yolks are good color, but seem more flabby than other yolks. Yesterday she was standing quietly looking like she would fall asleep, closing her eyes, then opening them up. She would walk a little, but very low energy...unlike herself. Kinky's comb and wattles were pale, and around her eyes seemed pale too.

I put her in a small hard sided traveling case for dogs or cats, and took her from the pen, placing the case in the area outside the walk out from the basement. It is in the shade at all times. I purchased some eprinex from TSC and dosed the oldest four hens, and the next two who are 14 weeks old. When I was about to dose everyone, I brought kinky into the basement because there was a small young snake hanging out on the hay bale next to her crate. So she is in the basement now.

This morning her color was better, and she did eat a bit of scrambled egg, and perhaps a tiny bit of kefir five pecks of watermelon, next to nothing of her feed, and not much if any water. Her poop is clear with green and white swirls, and there is a small sadly crumpled shell-less egg surrounded by clear liquid. She is just standing in place.

Could this be worms and may get better as the medicine clears them out? None of them have ever been wormed before.

Just gave her hind end a bath, which she did not appreciate, but really needed. When I offered her boss from my hand she gave a faint growl. That is the first sound she has made. Don't know how this will work out, but I guess it will be as it should be.

Sylvestor, thank you for thinking of me, I'm sorry I didn't repost. It seems to be good news. I brought Kinky into the basement, and put her in the large dog crate, and was pretty worried about her because she wasn't eating still. And she made this noise that sounded like a growl. But the next day she seemed a little better, color somewhat better, and a few little nibbles, but not enough. She would call to me though, and made the vibrating noise that sounded nicer, but still like a growl...Then she started eating some softened dog food that I gave her on a whim. He color got really good, she was drinking, and her movements and responses were normal. She is back out with the flock and seems fine now.

I think it was probably a lot of stuff. Stress from heat and I had put four of them in the orchard to look for bugs etc, but it was out of the routine, she had perhaps not been able to get cooled off, and possibly worms since I had never wormed any of them. She is not really laying again yet, and her eggs were strange for a long time, so I will have to keep checking her.

I think she was in a serious condition, and she is very lucky.

Thank you for having this thread, and I am so sorry that your girl didn't make it. The reds seem so indestructible, but sadly, they aren't.

Someone?

If you can upload some pics, it will be very helpful.

I'm sorry, we already buried her. We don't have a chicken vet in our state that we know of. BYC is my family's chicken medical lifeline so if they die we can't get a necropsy or anything done to figure out the cause. I'm starting to think that it may have been LL or Mareks or something like it. For all who look at this post, look at this thread...https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/135247//mareks-disease. I hope it helps!:)
