My Love Affair With Ducks...

Pics
I had answers for all your questions. But by the time I finished reading the rest of the posts I forgot the questions.

I worry if this trend of forgetfulness continues what I will be like when I get out of my prime.
You need to eat more raw honey! - But your buzzies had no chance of starting the production, right?

I love raw honey ❤
Raw Honey saved my job this year: I was coughing my kidneys out (lungs were already gone…) and had to guide a customer through an installation procedure over the phone. Without permanently suging some honey it'd ended in a desaster …

This is a post of questions.

Of course I know nothing regarding the difference in male and female duck development, but some things I’ve read (other than the obvious egg laying) are vocalization, tail placement, and plumage, if that’s even what’s it’s called. Are there others?

I would think since male ducks have penises, it would be easy for the hatcheries to sex them, right? 🤷🏼‍♀️ What are the chances that I might have gotten an accidental male? Could Petey actually be a male? She is somewhat of a bully, and always gonna get what she wants - food, attention, you name it. In the tub, she sneaks up on all the others and bites them on their little funky looking tails and makes them jump and squeal. Or their feet - picture a shark swimming underwater and attacking an unsuspecting foot It is funny to watch in a way, but I’m sure the others don’t appreciate it.

I am also guessing the cute little ‘nibbling’ they do on my fingers, hands, neck, and wherever is not a good habit and I should discourage it, right?

Also, these appendages called wings!?! Heck, theirs aren’t big enough to keep a Robin in flight. I now know why these fat arses cannot fly. Do the wings begin growing exponentially at any point?

And y’all aren’t kidding about being SSSers (Sharp Sh*t Shooters). Point, Aim, Fire, Splat! Even though there is a copious amount, I do not find it repulsive at all. I am comparing it to a chicken’s cecal and broody - both are utterly disgusting. Duckie poop is just really wet. Does it ever BEGIN to stink or somewhat remain the same, just more of it?
Duck sexing is easier than chick sexing so I think your odds are better. My six from Metzer were sexed correctly, which was amazing for me since I ALWAYS get several roosters from batches of pullets :th
Breed will influence behavior alot like what you see in Petey. It's amazing how quickly you start to see duck personalities ❤
I let mine nibble, they don't do it as much as they get older and if they do I don't mind. Ducks just have to feel everything!

@Mimi13 - I could use some cute pictures of your babies to cheer me up!
I discovered that i've lost my two beloved "Maggie" Ducks… :hit 😭
Oh dear, HillBilly. How in the world could they have just disappeared? I certainly hope and pray for the best. And of all days for me NOT to take any pictures of my duckies. I am so sorry. I will take a few extra tomorrow.

Their day was extraordinarily full though. After I mowed the yard I took them out for grass time and we were outside nearly an hour. It seems each day they will add some new duckie move and it just cracks me up. Today’s new move was putting their heads down and running full speed ahead. Reminded me of a goose about to attack. It’s just so funny to see the little ones do it.

I had to come in and fix supper - grilled hamburgers with potato salad - and after we ate, it was time for the little ones to swim. And boy did they. Their swim time ran a little longer than normal too. Their antics just kill me. Case in point: When I put them back in the brooder, Hershey was trying her best to preen her belly, but she was having a hard time staying balanced. Finally she rocked back on her ankles and was stabilized enough to pick at her belly. When she finally stood up she was still off balance a bit, to the point of her weight shifting to the back of her foot and back toe. All I could see when she was trying to walk like this was an old drunk woman trying to walk in high heels with the heel portion broken off. I could not stop laughing! :lau

Today, I could literally see how much they had grown. Their rate of growth is utterly amazing.

Needless to say, it didn’t take them long to preen and eat a bit before bedding down. I just love them.

Does this picture make my bill look big?
