My Love Affair With Ducks...

Peaches is just 10 weeks old and is already suffering with a pretty bad limp. Yesterday I thought she was favoring it a little and I looked it over and found nothing. This evening I noticed she has a significant limp. Once again, this time I brought her inside, I checked her foot, thinking bumblefoot, and still found nothing. Also, there was no swelling or heat in her foot or leg. Are ducks prone to lameness in their feet/legs?

If you can’t see anything, look closely for a puncture wound or cut. If you find nothing she might have just hurt herself, sprain or twist, then it will be better in a day or two.

Also keep in mind it is a Dux, as such she could be faking it so you will treat her kinder and maybe pick her up and hold her at which time she will stab you in the back..

x2 on what Ralphie said. It is fairly common to have leg issues unfortunately. I’m dealing with a leg injury now too, and I've kept her in confinement for a week or so and provided niacin just in case, but finally seeing lots of improvement. Like you I couldn't find any issues at first, but her leg became swollen in a day or so since I didn't confine her immediately.
A dog crate, small pen, or keeping her in the coop throughout the day are some ideas - whatever gets her to sit down and rest. Swimming is good for her too since it takes the pressure off.

My WLs are so patient and so laiiiiid back, but when they become upset, oh boy! My drakes have made their experiences when they were too clumsy on top or too aggressive. Suddenly that white duck turns around, hisses and attacks. They bite and pull feathers out and they use their wings to beat up the drakes if it is too much…

Would you believe the only water we’ve had in almost a week is the sweat dropping off my forehead. It has been miserably hot and humid here.

We had the same here, since Sunday temperatures and humidity rose every day, but this evening we finally got a good set of thunderstorms cooling us down.
I was almost unable to sleep last night because it was so humid, but tonight i will sleep like a baby!

I would like to say that Ralphie is the one that started this mess, but I know better. It most likely was Petey. No doubt about it!

I tried to fix the crack in their cheap blue pool with a piece of waterbed mattress vinyl and Flex Seal. I let it set two whole days to make sure the stuff ‘cured.’ Yeah, it didn’t work. Ran to town on Saturday to get another bee feeder and came back to a horrific sight. It took me just a minute to realize what had happened.

I am convinced now that ducks will and can get into anything! The vinyl was actually pulled loose and laying in the bottom of the pool.

Too bad I can’t blame it on Ralphie!

My ducks have peeled off the foam insulation of the copper pipes, connecting the AC-compressor to the house. They haven't eaten any of the foam, just peeled it off and shredded it to pieces.

Oh no, never will I place blame on the innocent, especially an innocent duck. However, in this instance there is no innocence, on any duck’s part. They were all involved.

So, if Ralphie wasn’t the leader, he went wrong when he decided to “follow the leader!” Dumb duck!

My ducks have peeled off the foam insulation of the copper pipes, connecting the AC-compressor to the house. They haven't eaten any of the foam, just peeled it off and shredded it to pieces.

Kind loved doing that when they free ranged. It was a fun game, I put it on, they pull it off.

I have already been on the receiving end of a wing bashing, and that was just trying to hang onto the dang duck. They are much harder to hold than a chicken.
