The males will make that shrill noise when a predator is around, or a snake! It's not loud enough for someone to complain but I guess someone might just out of spite.

All four of them were at it for ages that morning! We don't get many predators except for the odd osprey or buzzard passing by but that particular morning the fire alarm went off three times in the hotel... I wonder if maybe that unsettled them.
Or fair anough there could have been a cat or something around!

And I thought maybe the guests would complain, not normal neighbours. As long as it is during daylight hours we should be fine though.

I am just truly enjoying these birds in a way I never thought I would. They are fab and precious, if I knew I could provide the space and care for more different birds I would love to have more of them!

Goldens are pretty quite most of the time, something set them off....the only other time the males are vocal is during the breeding season but even then most people will have no clue as to what is making the noise.

Yes, pheasants are addicting! No other species of birds have the variety of colors!

And they are just fun! I never expected them to be so personable.

I know there is a guy in Ireland that sells Temminck's tragopan eggs in the spring and I really, really would love to give it a go... but it all depends what sort of space my workplace can provide. If it isn't big or good enough I obviously wont go there.

Yes, I just chock it up to a mentally unstable and sexally confused hen! If she changes feather pattern and color she might have lost her ovaries or they got damaged somehow! At the same time she shouldn't exhibit male mating characteristics, ie; displaying trying to mount, male vocalizations,etc.

Here's some pics of a ringneck hen that lost it's ovaries, idk how but she took on male plumage characteristics.
