I think the variation in color is interesting, especially considering that they all look the same as adults.
And, I certainly hope that Metzer's know's what they're doing in terms of sexing them (which is done by the color, they're a sex-linked breed). I assume they do, since they've done this bazillions of times.
I just don't really need any more drakes, and we want the eggs, hence the reason I ordered all females.
It really amazes me how they can put these tiny things into a box, and ship them across the country for 48 hours, and they are perfectly fine.
Do you have an idea of how many eggs you are going to get?
Do you think they will have to have lights to make them produce all year.
I am not sure I want to do the lighting thing so I am wondering how long they will lay for without it.

Not really. My Rouen hens started laying in late Jan/early Feb and go through July. These should go longer.
I lit my chickens in the winter of 2009-2010, and got eggs all winter. I didn't bother this past winter, and got eggs all winter.
As long as I get a few, enough for use, I probably won't light them. I think they need some "down time" when there isn't such a demand on their bodies all the time. Everyone deserves a vacation now and again.
