All 3 had a rough start! Momma opened the first live remaining chick. When I walked in the coop to check on her and the pipping chick is when I saw the broody flinging up the barred rock chick and about to eat the chick whole. I was able to reach down and stop her. The chick had not soaked any yolk up and was not ready to hatch. That's when I took the remaining eggs in.

I was only able to hatch 3 out of the 6 eggs. :(. The 3 that hatched are doing extremely well. Only 1 chick hatched itself.

When I picked up Marble right before my decision, I could hear a strong heartbeat. I had the deepest gut feeling that this chick needed some major intervention. I was right. The chick was being slowly suffocated. If I would of waited much longer, I doubt I would of been able to correct the leg issues. The toe was floppy, so I taped it to stop it from curling permanently.

I do hope all 3 are girls. Or at least the two that had the intervention of hatching. I want to keep them all, they are very special to me. Plus, my goal was to get a barred EE female.:). We can not have a rooster until we fence in our property, which is next spring.

Well good luck with them here at our house we always have special animals I had a flame point cat that was in an accident and had one broken front leg and the other nerve damaged only cost $2500 after all vet bills but he was loved, we also have two boas one with a kinked spine and one with bad ribs,
I used to do wildlife rehab and always seem drawn to the odd and the under dog LOL
usualy the ones with the roughest starts find special places in our hearts

LOL, I put my foot down to snakes!!! We had 2 tiny Garter snakes and one really calm one got loose in the house about 4 years ago. After that, I said no more snakes. My girls wanted a corn or milk snake, not sure which, but no way. They are big and they bite.

We are fencing our 4 acre lot starting next spring. I mentioned to my husband that I'd like to foster an animal or two. Not sure what, but most likely dogs. My children are growing and I'll feel empty not taking care of them. This will be good for me and keep me occupied in the upcoming years.

She is doing fantastic and going on 3 weeks old. I'm keeping her and I rehomed her two flockmates together. I changed my mind about keeping them I was thinking one was a boy and hubby says no roosters.:/. I'm pretty positive this is a girl.:D. I love her!

She is full grown. She's the size of my D'Uccle! Her cheek feathers are finally sprouting out! Being in that egg severely stunted her growth.

She's a very sweet pullet along with her buddies a RIR and an Andulasion which are 2-2.5 months younger then her.

Also, her name has changed to Stormy.:)

I recently helped another egg that was too big for the shell. There was no room for zipping and was pipped for over 24 hours. S/he too had leg problems(splay leg) and very weak. After splinting for 24 hours and vitamins, the chick made a full recovery. This chick wasn't nearly as strong as Stormy! I finally got an incubator, so no more shrink wrapped chicks!

Here S/he is, a pure Ameraucana. Unfortunately a splash color, so S/he will go to a new home with a few others. I'm hatching for show chicks.:).

A few hours old unable to use legs.

24 hours old after splints were off and a lot of encouragement to walk.

Hatched just a few days ago with 8 other hatch mates.

Helping chicks from the shell requires a lot of help and vitamins.;). As long as the chick as a good chance of life, I'll help it.
