My Mom wants me to get her a few small Birds... Need suggestions..

My cockatiels were not hand fed though they enjoy our company, for birds like cockatiels they really do need a friend, you can bond a cockatiel and a budgie if they are babies together, tons come into the spca attatched. My cockatiel also mimics other birds calls and the gunny pigs call, will cat call and try to say pritty bird.

canaries are great, get two males and they'll try to out sing one another

I have had parkeets, cockatiels, and doves. Honestly, the doves were the best

I could hold them, they cant bite. They make a calm cooing sound and they come in quite a few colors

I loved my zebra finches when I had them. They make a very pretty, low pitched sound. And if you have a male/female pair, they will hatch eggs. Now, they do seem to be VERY messy with their seed casings (might need a catch tray under the cage). But they are very soothing birds, and fun to watch.

I agree! They are so much fun to sit and watch, They are very busy! They hop all around and make their nests..it is so cute. I really miss mine. I have a cockatiel and have had him for 14 years, I love him dearly but he doesn't do much. He isn't hand tame so that makes a big difference too. When they are hand tame/hand raised, they are fun because you can get them out to play. If I had to get another bird/birds, it would definitely be finches!

I can sit and watch them for hours.

That is my one complaint with the finches. I will sit down to watch the weather and miss the whole thing because I get distracted watching the finches instead.
