Not this time of year but our fire season is fall into winter and last year there was a fire a couple counties over from us, but scary part is people throwing their cigaretts out the window into the woods when there is dry leaves. Or hunters walking around in the woods and tossing their cigs down {even when land is posted] Most of the time the fires get started from a camp fire or from some one burning on a day that's not a burning day.
I've never heard of that before birds pooping on the wire and causing a fire. what kind of birds and does it happen often?Here is what started the fire outside our fence.

The birds are a combo of blackbirds and starlings. I twas explained to us that this is common when it's been dry and dusty. I guess the poop and dust build up and if we don't get any rain, it can cause a short which can catch on fire and fall to the ground (see picture 3, note the lit ember falling). These pictures were taken the day *after* the grass fire. It took Cal Fire coming out twice to motivate PG&E to fix the problem. PG&E came out, washed the pole and installed bird spikes, which the birds love, lol.
What are bird spikes? I see that ember falling rather large ember.
The ground was alread burnt from the day before, so that one didn't start another fire, but it was clear to everyone exactly how the fire started once they say that, lol.
I had seen them before but for some reason I thought you meant they put something else up there for the birds to roost on, Don't think they'd be very comfortable roosting on them. lol looks like a perfect fit for a small bird to have it's nest. Help keep the nesting material in place.Some birds will make nests in them, lol.
