My Nearly Finished Coop

Beautiful! I prefer using saplings, 2.5" to 4" diameter, bark on, for roosts. It's more natural rather than that wide board, IMO.
In cold weather, just cover the north and west openings, to manage cold winds in the coop. You can also cover the north and west sides of the run like I do, with two layers of clear plastic sheeting, for winter. Experiment with wind protection while maintaining good ventilation.

My coop has grown and changed over time, and now is a roofed coop/ small run combination too. In winter, doubled plastic sheeting covers the lower sides of the run area, leaving the top open for ventilation. It has worked very well, and there's enough room for everyone to be inside during snow storms, or when raptors visit.

True confessions; It's still not painted! There is a new matching roof, after a tree fell on it last year. Must get new pictures, preferably after painting.
