We just bought a roo. I am just waiting for the neighbors to complain. I could care less though as my roo is not the only one in town.

Check your town regulations. If roosters aren't illegal, then your neighbor can just go shove... some earplugs in her earsI know this is an old post, but I'm also having similar experiences. I've had roosters for decades, but suddenly my neighbor is complaining and threatening me. She is complaining about the daytime crows more than anything I think, but wasn't specific. I have blocked the coop from the sun as much as possible, so they got up about a half an hour later today, but I need roosters to wake me up and keep me awake because I have hypersomnia. I don't want to share this with my crabby neighbor, since my health issues are not her business. I don't see why someone would live in the county if they didn't like animal sounds. I would love to buy 10 acres and put the coop in the middle of my property, but I can't afford that lol
Since you're allowed to have roosters, I'd tell him to suck it up buttercupOkay so here's the issue:
My Silkie roo has been crowing at 2:30am several times a week. I have started to turn off the light that is by my side door since he can see that when he roosts. I make sure that I sleep with my window open at night because if my neighbor (he now has) complains about my roo I can say "Yup, I know what you mean. As you can see I sleep with my window open too."
My neighbor caught me going into my house with groceries and preceeded to complain about my roo. He says it is driving him nuts and he's loosing 2-3 hours of sleep each night bacause of my roo. He wants it to stop ASAP. I explained that I forgot to shut off the light last night and that I too am woken up by his crowing. He then suggested to muzzle the bird![]()
Is there anything else I can do to keep him quiet at night? Getting rid of him is NOT an option! I am zoned as rural/mixed-use so I am allowed to have chickens including roos.
I am the OP of this thread. What worked for me was to give my neighbor a sound maker and eggs. I was empathetic to his concern and it made things better. Maybe wrap it up in a gift bagI know this is an old post, but I'm also having similar experiences. I've had roosters for decades, but suddenly my neighbor is complaining and threatening me. Hello, What is a sound maker? I had two roosters but just have one now. I'm kind of afraid of her... She is a small elderly lady, but she can scream like a banshie, so talking to her is a huge challenge (I have social anxiety already).I am the OP of this thread. If you have more than 1 rooster, that will cause the roosters to crow more frequently throughout the day. If you have a surplus of non-essential roosters, you may want to rehome the extras. That will also show your neighbor that you are trying to be a empathetic to their concern.
Please let me know how it all works out for you![]()
