My neighbor is complaining about my rooster :/

I did not know that roosters can't crow if they can't raise their heads.

Not necessarily true. I have a handicapped rooster who can crow just fine from a laying down position by throwing his head forward.

I read somewhere that a passing car's headlights can wake a rooster to crow. If he has a window near his roost, you might try covering it in case that might be a cause.

Sounds like a good plan....

I have a roo who can barely fit into a little cat carrier, and yet he manages to crow quite well. I had hoped putting him in there would prevent the crowing for a bit,but no he just kept on going. We may have to rehome ours as well.

^ well HE should realize that she cant just walk outside and say listen lil roo you cant crow until 9 am ok? it doesn't work that way and even tho YOU and HE may not like roosters she obviously loves her pet and as she stated the rooster is almost 2 acres away from him she is ALLOWED to have roosters even tho they crow there is no such thing as a silent rooster he also should not be being so rude when taking a complaint to someone THAT is no way to get anything done shes not doing it intentionally and neither is the rooster, a rooster crows for all sorts of things to warn other roosters to stay away, to warn there's a predators, its in there nature just last night my rooster started crowing and I shined a light out there and a feral cat was stalking around ITS NATURAL its an animal

@ OP yes for the safety of your lil roo try and get him to be quiet I close mine up in the coop at night, but mine also isnt near a light lol
and yes people can get very nasty so watch him closely until you get the situation calmed down I personally dont care about a roo's crow I actually enjoy it but that is just me and im prolly the only on HAHA

The neighbor, while possibly rude, brought the problem to her rather than calling the cops or whoever. Or taking matters into his own hands. Her rooster is not a wild animal that just happens to live there and must be put up with. He is her pet and she is responsible for his well being. Which includes protecting him from ticked off neighbors. Or animal control or whoever might want to kill or relocate him.

If I was woken up at 2 am by your rooster several nights in a row, my unhappy a$$ would be on your front door complaining too. Just as I would expect you to come over complaining about my 2 am howling mutts. Which I don't actually have, because I keep their butts inside so they don't wake the neighbors.

It's called common courtesy. Angry neighbors make for an unhappy neighborhood. And unhappy neighbors can make life miserable. It's the OP's job to be a responsible pet owner and neighbor, doesn't matter what the pet is.

That's the kind of stuff that gets chickens (and especially roosters) banned from areas.

I would suggest to your neighbor that he move to the city. A rooster crowing is part of normal country sounds and if he don't like it then I don't think the country is for him!!! I have a neighbor right across the road that doesn't like kids. We had 8 kids total move into the area in a matter of months and boy was he peeved. He even goes as far as to tell them they can't ride their bikes in the road and can't ride their go cart there either. I told him where to stuff it. Rather nicely I might add!! Told him if he wanted to live where there weren't any kids he needed to buy 100 acres and put his house right in the middle of it!! He doesn't come out of his house much and built a six foot fence in front of his house so evidently he doesn't have to see us and we don't have to see him! I rather like it that way.

can you crate this roo inside your house at night? creating bad blood with neighbors is never a good thing. can a rooster be de crowed as a dog can be de barked?

No. The coop is located about 1.5-2acres away from his house. I am the one who should be complaing about the noise since the coop is about 500 ft from my bedroom window.

An acre is 208' X 208', so "two acres away" is still only 416 feet.

Maybe you could insulate the coop to deaden the sound
