Here it is-quite a few people here don't believe my story-I do have a court date on 1/20/11-got him on theft and animal abuse 4:22-17 statuet for the state of NJ.

"I am not one to post my life on the internet, but this threw me for a loop. My chickens, -have been missing since the morning on the blizzard-12/26. We have looked for them for days-worried sick. I had come to the conclusion that they may have died in the snow. My husband looks behind my house in the woods, to find my neighbor-(we don't get along) screaming at him-saying that he's had my "effin" chickens all this time, (no note, no phone call, not even contact with the local police to complain) knowing they were mine (theft-kidnapping), my husband asked to get them, my neighbor refused, then goes on to grab them by their legs, turn them upside down, and throw them into the concrete in the street-ANIMAL ABUSE!! I am pressing charges and filing for a restraining order. What really gets me is his wife claims to hate birds, has 3 of they're own chickens, and GET THIS-works for a vet in Bergen County, and watched her husband try to kill them-she claims they keeping them safe. I AM BAFFLED-this is really sick.........I'm sick over this. I just don't get it."

This post made my day. I hope it cheered up this thread's original poster too.

Thanks, CoupDePoop.

Interestingly, the email discussion stopped almost immediately. All negative comments about my birds ceased immediately. And lots of folks in the neighborhood have come to visit my birds and tell me how great it is to have them - and ME - in the community.

Sometimes you just need to smack people FIRST, before they get encouraged to do real damage by your good manners.

I hate that it's this way - but experience has taught me this is how it is.

FemmeJolie - It may be time to consider not being nice person anymore.

I'm just saying.

Wow.

I just read the whole thread (speed reading so I appoligize if I repeat anything.)

I glad to hear your chickens are OK. I would add some locks to the coop and run (not sure if you have a run).

The big factor if he gets any time will be if he has any prior arrests or on probation. If this is his first offence the judge will have to stick with sentencing guidelines. Do you know what the mins are maxs sentencing is?

Best of luck.

AGREED!!!!!!

x2 I would rather support a troll than insult someone who may be going through a difficult time and looking for support.

I concur.

I believe you. And for the sarcasm, shame on those people. I would be just as upset as you. I love my chickens, dogs, cats, etc. like they are family. Have you thought of going to the local newspaper?
I lived in Bergen COunty before moving to NY, animal abuse charges going public would make people notice.
