My New Babies!

I hope they are male and female too! If not, I will be in trouble too! I went by the color of the fluff and the bill. Females should have a darker bill and fluff coloration.

Very cute little ones! I love goose babies. They're so much more inquisitive and friendly than our other types of poultry. Congrats!

Our decision to get geese was finalized one day at the local feed store. We leaned over a trough full of geese and ducks. The ducks screamed and ran away... and all the goose babies started talking and ran TOWARDS us. Lol. We were sold. They are a joy to have around the farm. You're going to have so much fun with yours!
Funny you mentioned that they are so much more inquisitive! I was just telling my husband this same thing this morning. They are very attentive and nosy! I love them!

Our decision to get geese was finalized one day at the local feed store. We leaned over a trough full of geese and ducks. The ducks screamed and ran away... and all the goose babies started talking and ran TOWARDS us. Lol. We were sold. They are a joy to have around the farm. You're going to have so much fun with yours!
I have toyed with the idea of having geese for the last couple of years and have been leary of doing so because everyone I talked to said they were mean!...So far as babies I love their personalities...I hope by lots of handling and interaction we have two nice geese...I do understand that nesting animals can be protective and I can respect that and give them their space and privacy...Thanks for the congrats!

Hand raised, I don't think they'll be mean with you. Just as with dogs, they are social animals and have a definite hierarchy. You do have to establish in their minds that you're the boss. One of my three, the middle one that is also somewhat timid/fearful, seems to have a mind of his own. For example, I can pick up the other two and they're generally fine with it. He struggles and wants down most of the time. So, I've decided that he gets down when I want him to, not when he wants to --- I used this same approach on my dogs as puppies, just hold them and calm them but let them know they don't call the shots.
It's a definite learning experience.

Don't limit yourself via names to the Mayflower - how about names that start with "P" for Pilgrim? You can find tons if you google "girls or boys names beginning with "P" . My two female baby Pilgrims are Pansy and Petunia and am going to keep the flower theme going for as long as I can (Primrose, Peony etc.) The two boys are Popcorn and Patches. BUT I wonder if I will be able to tell them apart as their adult feathering comes in? Maybe, maybe not. I've had them only 2 weeks so far and I carry them out to a fenced secure grassy area every day, but wish I could train them to follow me - they run away when they see me, but maybe it just takes more time for them to get used to me.
Denninmi - what type of goslings were you able to buy at the feed store??? I've never seen goslings at our Tractor Supply - only chicks and ducks - you are lucky!
