They are sleeping now. We have had a horrible afternoon. My husband got me a pug for my b-day and he is only 12 weeks old now. One of my other dogs scared him and his eye almost fell out!!!!!!!!!! I just about lost it. I went around the house screaming trying to find my keys, purse, cell phone, oh yeh and the puppy. We live out of town so the 20 min trip to the vet I did in less than 10. My vet instantly pulled us into the operating room and pushed his little eye back in. Said he would be fine because the eye was still able to move side to side like the other one. I guess it matched up right with the other eye. Anyways--I freaked out and left the boys at home with the chickies because I didn't have any time to put my other animals up and secure the chickens. I had to get my puppy to the vet! I was worried about the chickies and the puppy but the puppy had to go to the vet immediately!!! He is okay now but what a nite!! Now I'm gonna sit back have a diet coke and hold my new chickie babies. Hope your day went better than ours!

I had a glass of wine at the end of my day. It was slightly less hectic than yours. I had extra kids in and out all day. They all wanted to see the chicks and my daughter darted in there every chance she got. She had a look of sheer glee as she swong her little arm back and forth trying to grab a chick. Thank goodness that her little arms dont reach down far enough to reach the chicks. It was to funny. My son wants to hold them all the time. My neice and nephew were here twice and the chicks were the hit of the day! I had to lock the room. Did I mention that my cat keeps eyeing them and getting this look like they are tasty little toys! So I stressed about them all day and now I am looking at chicken coops with my hubby. Want to send me a pic of yours? LOL I need to house all my chickens and some phesants for the winter! We need room! Did I mention that we are on a tight budget? Oh well I am sure that we will dig up some materials but I really need a good plan for a big coop.

Edited to add: Sorry to hear about the puppy's eye. Hope that it all goes well from here on out. Glad it went well at the vet.

We almost bought a pug, but we ended up with a guinie pig instead, whos teeth broke off recently( a temporary condition) but it's pretty hard to beat that eye's popping out thing.. Ide freak too

Anyway, The new babies are very cute.....are Some of them dominiques and did you buy strait run?
I'm still getting my breeds down so, i think I see EE's as well not sure on the others

I ordered barred rocks(6 but I got 7 so one must be my warming chick), 2 golden campines ( they look like leopard print!), 3 ameracaunas, and one blue silkie. All were ordered as pullets except for the silkie. I could only order st run for it. I have a feeling it is a roo though. I don't care--it is sooo cute. I like the barred rocks. We have a park in Dallas that is a copy of an 1800s town. With old houses and buildings that are actuals they moved in or rebuilt to match the era. They have a small working farm with barred rocks in their coop area. Barred rocks have been used as dual purpose chickens for a long time. This park even uses flowers in their flower beds from the 1800 era. Everything is authentic. At the farm area there is a woman who plays a character of a women from that era. She talks about times getting hard and her periles of trying to decide if she should keep her chickens for their eggs or should she butcher one or two for food. Anyways--I fell in love with the barred rocks they have there.

I didn't order st. run because the last time I got 5 roos and 3 hens! Not a good balance.

Sorry I think I edited my last post while you were responding to it....
Anyway, I dont know if you sex barred rocks the same as dominiques, ( I think you might) and I am not an expert so this is a novice prediction at best, but, ide say the one sitting next to the gray one in the top picture is a boy, let me know of im right.

Do you think that because the white spot on his head is bigger? I don't know how to sex them. I know it can be done just by looking at their coloring but I don't know how to do it!

Yes, the white spot(on dominiques anyway) is supposed to be small and generally confined to one area on the top of the head in pullets and larger and more scattered in males, at least in the very begining after they hatch, but they say it isnt 100% accurate and experienced breeders use a couple other methods along with it, but i'm not experienced so i'm just guessing.

Good morning Judy,
Well I checked on the babies and they are fine this morning. they are surprisingly quiet, that must mean that they are content. The only thing that I need to do now is change the papertowels again. I did it last night at like 7 but I get up again this morning and it is a total disaster again. Oh well I guess this is part of the chicken experience. I dont think my hubby knows what he is in for with his 30 phesants that are comming. LOL I am NOT doing it for him. He hasnt helped me with mine yet and I dont expect him to. I do however expect him to take care of his without me.

Sorry to hear about your thumb, that would be a pretty bad day. Although I think the eye popping out is worse, Sorry. get well! Did you finish the lego coop yet?
