My new baby brooder.

They stay there about 2 -3 weeks depending on time of year, temperature etc,
then into an unheated slightly larger shed with an outside run covered with netting to stop hawk attacks.

here's a pic of mine it's about 24inx48inx24in tall. covered in chicken wire and 1/2in hardware cloth on the bottom. This pic doesn't show it but I put a poop board towards the bottom of the legs that helps alot for cleanup because they poop a lot.The whole thing was made from 2x4's that I ripped in half and screwed together.

That looks good.I like the idea that it is on legs. How many could you put in it.

Anyone ever consider a pack and play for a brooder? It's what I use, and is so much easier to store away and clean. Just my two cents.

I learned that AFTER I spent an entire weekend building a huge brooder.

When I put chicks in it they still bunched up together as they still needed heat. I had 11 but I'm sure you could put twice as many as they are small, but they grow fast so you need something bigger already made up for them. Mine were very big at 4 wks. and today at 8wks are very big.

Hi - my only comment on that is that it looks a little draughty for newly hatched chicks.
