My NEW Breeding Pens

Ok, those look awesome and I love the idea of using pallets! We built our chicken tractors out of pallets but it was a pain in the neck to tear them apart! How did you do it? (You may have said before, but I really would rather not wade through 11 pages to see.) Would you mind sharing? If you had a faster way I would love you forever. I used a crowbar at first. NEVER AGAIN! Now I'm using a sawzall. It's faster but not ideal.

I wanted to use a sawzall too.... hubby said no... We used a crowbar, but that was WAY too hard. Ended up using a sledge hammer from the back and it usually left the nails behind. It was not easy... but did not take too long. The hard part was removing nails. Reg pallets with slats... like you see at the hardware store..... I would not attempt to take them apart unless you use a sawzall.

These were no regular pallets. If I can think of it I will try to get pics of these. They are very nice and SOLID, with WIDE wood. I used regular pallets for the table like things we started with.

Yeah we don't have pallets like that. :( I love having them! I hate taking them apart! If you ever figure out a magic way let me know! ;)

I would just not build if I had to use those.... impossible to take apart, you have my sympathies......

I tried to build with pallets and absolutely could NOT get them to come apart right, or get the nails out, or get any help. So, off they went and I hired a guy to come build an addition to our existing coop. Gotta do what ya gotta do. You did GREAT!!!

I use pallets for a lot of things, mostly fires, but when I build something I take mine apart with a circular saw. I cut the ends off with the saw, leaving the nails in the heavy part usually 2x4. The middle one I try to take the nail out using this method.

The whole pallet can be done as shown in the video, just start in the middle as the ends will split if you do them first. Don't ask how I know this.

That is pretty much how we did it crow bars and hammering. A sledge was quick but we did lose some wood. But all in all not much.

Thanks for the video link... that was helpful!
