My new cheap coop

Quote:
my parents birds free range and roost in trees.... they do not have a shelter

My peacocks live in an old corn crib- no top, just a wire panel enclosure- they have no shelter-- just protection.

I have kept many birds in pens around the yard, no shelter- just a dog house to lay eggs in... They wouldn't use that doghouse during a weather event... no shelter.

well I guess if you're in Oklahoma... and never get rain or snow...

but then again, if you never get either of those... do your birds even need shelter?

You know not every one lives in a negative world like you do.
I always look for for the good in everything.
that way I have a much happier life.

Okie 2, see your fairly new to the BYC, so

. If you get a chance go to https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=501128 It is People of Oklahoma talking about all sorts of birds and coops, things that are relevant to our part of the country....

You got a good looking coop..I like how you've added the extra security of a hot wire. Good idea for the feeder "lid"

A few things:

-that hardware looks pretty new, but isn't included in your expense total, why?
-your electric fence charger isn't included either?
-without some windows, your birds may end up with respiratory problems.

I think your coop confirms that spending several hundred (or thousand) dollars to house chickens is not necessary!

Very thrifty & resourceful...our coop was only supposed to cost $200...sadly that was the cost of the welded-wire

it has a window on the south side.
the charger is $32.00 at ace hardware but this one is one I have had for many years
I already had all the wiring except for the $3.88 for the 2 250 watt heat bulbs.

did you already have the window?

doesn't matter if you had the stuff or not, even if you formulated the hinges with your own cast iron, you'll still spent that money at some point or another. Let alone time.
