Except brave little LuLu. She explored all over.

And she wondered if the camera was edible lol

Exactly! I was thinking why not invest in nice show quality birds then keep any lesser hens for table layers and eat any boys that weren't up to snuff? Some people run a show flock and buy cheaper hatchery birds or just don't have any interest in exhibition birds and that's fine but I love breeding toward the SOP, I like the challenge and reward so it seems perfect that I can utilize the birds that aren't breeding quality to provide for my family and still enjoy my not too cheap hobby

Well I got some cheapo farm store chickies after all. Can't wait for the mottleds to grow up and I only have two of them I want to butcher anyway and even those two are so friendly and sweet we are free ranging them as pets lol so we bought some meat babies and I might start a little backyard experiment breeding these red rangers and cornish rocks to my orpington roos that aren't show quality, it might be a good cross for meat and eggs until my orp flocks are bigger and can feed our family and my hobby. We fenced in over two acres for free ranging them and the Pyrenees.

That's a great idea! Orps x RR, sounds like breakfast and dinner!!!
All twelve of my NH girls laid one day last week. Since then I'm getting 8 eggs a day pretty consistently, sometimes 10, just from the NHs. I also get 2-4 eggs a day out of my three original hens and the one second gen hen I have left. They're the only four I have left from a laying flock of 8 girls and an EE roo.

I'm hoping they make a good cross and it will give me lots of incubating practice. Turns out those cornish from TSC are in reality leghorns lol they are small long flighty and certainly not meat birds. I will have lots of eggs at least!
The orps had some outdoor time and I got some updated pics of them enjoying their 2 acres free range space, of which they're only brave enough to explore abt 15 feet lol

Well hubby found a stray dog at work. She followed him around relentlessly until he gave in and brought her home. She needs some TLC and isn't trusting of other dogs but she's already getting settled in. She looks like awiener dog or basset mixed with a lab but we have no idea lol any guesses?

She's the little black one lol
Poor harrah wants to know why the new dog won't play with her lol

TSC doesn't know what they've got. If you don't know what you happen to be looking at, then it's really a roll of the dice.

We have a total of almost 2 acres, and the chickens aren't restricted from any part of it, but they don't really use all of it.

Yeah they were yellow fluff balls. I couldn't tell the diff. Now that I have studied the two breeds I think I could tell the diff. I well. I'm not a huge fan of these flighty leghorns but if they give me eggs to eat so I can incubate orp eggs then I'll live lol.
The new little dog caught a mouse today, she went rabbit hunting last night, she's turning out to be a great farm dog now we just have to give her a name!

Yeah, that's hard to tell. lol
My WL girls from TSC gave me 7 eggs a week for almost two years. I lost about half to predation, b/c they're stupid. But they'll lay in the same place no matter where it is, no matter whether you collect the eggs or not (I've had some that would switch laying locations on me just for collecting the eggs, but the WL don't care). They slow down a little in the winter, but not much; here, I'd say about 5 eggs per week per pullet/hen.

That's great!!! Black Beauty? Shadow? IDK. Do you want her name to include the fact that she's black? Oh, you could rename your white dog Salt and then name the new one Pepper.
