That is a pigeon trap, with the trap bars removed. I used it for a temporary brooder, and the chicks still remember it and like to go in it. Now, I use it to accumulate the chicks after their late afternoon outing.

Thanks. I think it will do unless I have an attack of chicken math, which is very possible.

Yes, the trap bars or wires hang down from the top of the opening. They are spaced about an inch apart, and can easily be pushed in by a pigeon entering the trap, but cannot be easily pushed out. Here is a better description. http://www.turkeycountrymagazine.com/13MA/Members Only/diy.html

I didn't build mine exactly like that, but used the same principles.

I have the run filled with dirt, and have now decided to top it off with 4" of mulch. I have an unlimited supply of free mulch, and am going to try this first; if I don't like it, I will switch to construction sand. Tomorrow, we start putting the wire on. I have to have the run usable and connected to the coop by Thursday at the latest.

'poop board' is a board under the roost so it catches a majority of the poops.
