Flemish ae awesome pets for a child, as long as they do not try to pick them up. remember a flemish can weigh as much as a small child. up to and some cases over 20 lbs.
Males have much better temperment than females thats for sure.
I had one who would sit up and beg shamelessly for treats.
his name was The Babe lol I got him at 8 weeks old and he never saw the inside of a cage.
