ok so I entered it into the coop contest but no one seems to have noticed.. so here it is...

I worked so hard on it.
the beginings ..

my run with some rope on the front I am going to replace it with fishing string so that you cant see it as much.. we used soccer nets across the top to keep the chicken hawks out.

the coop inside I pieced together plywood at an angle to keep them from roosting up on top of the boxes.

oh yea I forgot to mention I only have about 50$ in this coop.. not counting the plants.. I recycled everything and made things work and fit..

ha ha we had our babies too before we even really started working on our coop,, there is nothing like babes growing up to pressure you to finish quick.. LOL
mine were jumping out of the baby pool broader around the screened in porch for about a week till I got it finished enough to put them in. LOL

Well aparently I must have a WELL BUILT preditor proof run that is wonderfully made! Now one is making any comments. I have noticed that if there is something wrong with a coop that everyone an their uncle chimes in about it. Not too many comments here so I guess it is good to go!

This is a really nice coop.
I plan to do landscaping around mine as well...
LOVE the Rooster protector!

I have to make my coop too still. I hope to use recycled wood as well... it is a matter of finding the time when the weather cooperates. Looks like rain and thunderstorms this weekend grrrrrrrrrrrr

Very nice - the recycling message especially. Chickens dont need fancy.
I make that 10-12 birds you have there. Rainy, humid FL.
What are your plans for waste management?

uuh emmm..

waste management.. well it is sand.. and I was planning to put more sand in it.. then use a deep litter method.. and there is actually 16 birds.. started with 12 two died,, one death by child one death by hawk.. (reason for the net) so the kids crying and all.. we went to the feed store.. came back with 6 more.. crazy fuzzy math..

oh yea and they are gardenia bushes to smell good!

From my distant vantage, I suggest you stick with clean sand throughout. It drains well (it rains a LOT in FL) and poo dries almost instantly on it. Then scoop it like you would a cat box and compost the manure, that lovely chicken 'Butt Gold'.

Replenish the sand now and then and replace it semi annually.

I lived in FL for years. Organic matter deep litter in FL makes me cringe at the thought.
