My old cat is dying....

I am so sorry for what you and Alf are going through!

However, reading this thread has made me feel a lot better about the shape that my old cat is in. I had been thinking that he was going downhill, but in relation to your story, and the stories of others, he is doing pretty well. He's 14 also. Or maybe 15. Having some problems, losing some weight, but I think his quality of life is still good. That's the important thing, after all.

I hope that poor Alf passes peacefully.

This happened to my dog when his kidneys failed. I had to have him put to sleep, couldn't stand to see him suffering. Hopefully your boy will go peacefully, soon... or your DH will realize that it is time to end the suffering.

to you, I know it hurts.

Well its over. He was suffering too great from the fall he took. Apparently he broke some bones. He passed this afternoon. Its hard, he was hubby's cat, but we both feel the pain. I am glad I was at work. It makes me realize how old the rest of our animals are getting, we have another cat who is 12, one thats 5, a dog thats 11 and another dog thats 7. He is better now though, now thats its over. We are comforted that we did all we could to make his life better with the time he had with us. Thank you all for your support.

I am so sorry, know this, He knows you both were there for him and took great care of him.
It is hard, an there is nothing any one can say to take the pain away, I know this. But just always remember he knows you took great care of him.
