both of them has one eye swollen shut, it looks really crusted over too. they seem raspy and they arent moving much, the rooster's comb and waddle are a purplish red color. i am not sure if its normal for a white silkie to act this way or not, but im not sure that the eyes are good or not. ive been mixing terramycin in their water but i am open to see whats going on for someone who knows more than i do...

I had silkies, and they are pretty aggressive, I finally got rid of them because they attacked everyone in the flock, they didn't fight eachother to the point of injury. If the comb is purple, I think that means it's injured or deadened. Good Luck!

these arent very aggressive at all. i just got them yesterday, other than the eye on both of them being shut everything else seems alright.

You just got them and they are sick?

Can you call the person you got them from to see if they have had an outbreak?

If you can find Terramycin eye ointment you should probably get some and start treatment.

Silkies are supposed to have purplish colored combs. Their skin is supposed to be "gypsy" colored, which is darker than most other chickens. Was the comb this color yesterday, or did you notice?

yep the comb was the same color.
terramycin eye ointment.
the eye wont even open to put any eye ointment inside of it.
idt there was an outbreak, so i dont know whats going on.

1.) Keep them away, FAR FAR FAR away from your other birds. (!!!!!!!!!!)

2.) Contact seller to get more info. You may want to consider sending them BACK...

3.) Mulberry colored combs are normal (and desirable) in this breed.

4.) What is their setup right now? are they inside with heat, etc.? Have you attempted to remove goo with warm damp washcloth?

They do not sound "normal" at all to me, they sound quite sick & possibly contagious, I truly would not consider this an acceptable purchase!

It is an antibiotic, so it CAN be of use for BACTERIAL INFECTIONS, which your silkies may or may NOT have.

Antibiotics do absolutely NOTHING for a virus, and it is very very possible that your silkies have a viral infection. It is really hard to say, since you just got these birds and don't have much history on them.

Are they quarantined away from your other birds????

Agreed, keep them away from your other birds.

Conjunctivitis can be viral and it can be the first symptom of a whole host of diseases. Terramycin cures only a very small number of chicken illnesses. For most, it is useless.

Make sure you change your shoes, wash your hands, and so forth after handling these birds so that your other chickens do not catch it from them.
