I am saying chick 1 is going to be a hen and chick 2 will be a male.

Chick 1 is very dark and I found that hens are usually very dark at hatch.

Breeding season starts by the amount of light your peas are exposed to. John in NY left his heat lamps on for his silkie chicks and his peas started breeding and laying.

Thanks John! How are the eggs doing in your incubator? Are they still laying? The other eggs quit and are not going to hatch so only 2 hatched from that batch and the other 11 didn't

a little bummed on the bad hatch for you

... as of now, i've got 3 due i believe on 3/6 and another 13 hopefully in about 3 weeks... .. are you up to negcropsying the others to see what colors they were and possibly what went wrong? .. on the one ones that hatched for you, the darker one may be low % spaulding...

John I did open the eggs I still had. The colors were 1 white (could be either white or blackshoulder), 1 silver pied (all white with dark patch on shoulders only), 2 IB w/ white flights (like chick 1) and 5 IB (like chick 2). Those are the 11 colors of the last 13 that were in the incubator, 2 eggs were discarded earlier and are out in the trash.
Let me know when you hatch out any of the opals
